2 Inside Berks business is a : A five day learning experience for educators A collaborative effort of local businesses and educators who work together for the future well being of our students. An educational program sponsored by the Berks County Intermediate Unit, Berks Business Education Coalition and participating Berks County School Districts.

3 Inside Berks business is: An opportunity for educators to receive a personal experience of what local businesses offer perspective employees. Also an opportunity for educators to understand what businesses are looking for in perspective employees, so that we as teachers, can better prepare our students for the work force.

17 Technology Use of two way video conferencing has enabled the company to better serve its customers, and its employees. Rooms are outfitted with high tech video screens and smartboards. This has saved the company money in travel time. Rooms are scheduled for regular meeting months in advance.

22 Project Abstract for a Standards Based Curriculum A Teach strategies for effective speaking and listening skills that are necessary for a job interview C Develop and assemble career acquisition documents such as: letter of appreciation after an interview, letter for recommendation request and resumes B-Instruct and illustrate effective listening techniques: clarifying, encouraging, reflecting, restating and summarizing C Instruct students on conflict resolutions skills: how to take and receive constructive criticism, how to work with an effective group situation and how to problem solve.

23 Standards Based Lessons As a teacher of second language learners, I will have my students research careers of interest. They will then create resumes and complete job applications for these positions. I will work with them on job interviewing techniques while emphasizing listening skills. Role playing is essential here. I feel that my job is to prepare my students to be productive citizens and worthwhile employees. This program has given me information to better instruct my students for the working world.
