3 ABOUT THE ROLE Title Reporting to Direct reports Financial scope Location Duration Grade Senior Supporter Development Officer Supporter Development Manager None Rugby, UK Permanent C Purpose Public Fundraising is responsible for raising 15M income to support the delivery of Practical Action s mission and vision. An effective development strategy and programme to support and retain supporters is critical to our success. The Senior Supporter Development Officer will play a key role in managing and delivering inspirational supporter development campaigns, on time, within budget and to agreed KPIs across a variety of media to help us deliver our ambitious growth plans. The role requires an operational and a strategic approach. The role requires and operation and a strategic approach to enable us to deliver long term support and growth. Scope You will contribute to the creation of our 3-year development strategy and will be responsible for developing and managing specific supporter campaigns in line with the development strategy, plans and budgets set by the Supporter Development Manager. You will help us develop and maintain a strong appeal and stewardship programme using on and offline. You will prepare detailed income and expenditure reports for each area of activity interpreting data to measure effectiveness and make tactical recommendations for future campaigns based on campaign analysis. You will interrogate the individual giving data on the database and ensure that all opportunities are being captured. You will build a good understanding of our supporters, champion the voice of supporters and enable us be supporter centric, building long-term relationships with our supporters to grow our supporter base and deliver long-term sustainable income. You will primarily work within the area of individual giving development; however you will be responsible for supporting and managing campaigns across acquisition and development as agreed annually. You will work closely with the marketing and communications team to support our audience development strategy and implement it. Key Working Relationships The role reports directly to the Supporter Development Manager and will be part of our public fundraising team. You will develop close working relationships across the public fundraising team, marketing and communications, international programmes, policy and practice, finance and staff in our offices overseas. You will be part of a small team of fundraisers responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of our plans. You will be responsible for the day to day management of the key suppliers, professional fundraising agencies and creative agencies with whom we work, building effective relationships. 3

4 JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES Contribute to and support the development of our 3 year strategic plan for donor development to maintain and develop great relationships with existing supporters, through our direct marketing, committed giving and stewardship programmes, contributing to the organisational planning process, producing annual plans, budgets and reforecasting. You will be responsible for the development and delivery a strong appeal and stewardship programme (on and offline) for both cash and committed giving. Committed Giving to include upgrade, conversion and reactivation. Help deliver activities and plans (on and offline) to brief, time, KPI s, budget provide value for money and are compliant with Practical Action s fundraising policies, data protection legislation and other codes of practice. Responsibility for the overall schedule management and database selection briefs. Support the development, prepare and lead effective stewardship programme to build great supporter relationships, developing and shaping our supporter experience to grow our programme, maximising lifetime value. Support and deliver effective campaign management processes and procedures, ensuring ongoing evaluation and learning. Including new mail packs, concepts, testing including content design and reporting results. Contribute to the identification, definition and development of new individual giving audiences for Practical Action, developing strategies to maintain support and build relationships and income. Take responsibility for the delivery of multi-channel fundraising campaigns, working with the digital team and external agencies to ensure response from target audiences is maximised. Commission and manage the briefing and scheduling of Communications Team to deliver appropriate content and copy for campaigns, undertaking collective planning. Undertake occasional overseas trips for familiarisation and content collection. Track, monitor and evaluate performance of development activities; producing timely and accurate management information, detailed analysis on all campaign elements, make recommendations and implementing contingency plans to turn underperformance around, always ensuring value for money. Ensure the Supporter Services Unit are well briefed and have samples and thank you letters in advance of activities going live. Take responsibility for the delivery of activity and campaign data and internal campaign briefs, handling print management and procurement, securing print quotes, delivery schedules and final proofing. Undertake project research to support the delivery of development activities. Contribute to maximising participation in and income from Gift Aid. Monitor the development budgets (income and expenditure) across multiple channels and activities including reforecasting, preparing accurate monthly reports and analysing performance against KPIs. Take responsibility for building and developing the relationship with fundraising agencies, creative agencies and internal stakeholders engaged in individual giving development activities. You will be responsible for day to day account management, negotiating costs and ensuring activities and plans are developed and delivered to brief, time and budget. Ensure the effective collation, synthesis and sharing of feedback on materials and activities. Present and feedback on our work, our activities and results to a range of audiences internally and externally. Keep abreast of individual giving development activities amongst competitors and the wider charity sector, maintaining an awareness of commercial and sector trends and legislation that relate to Practical Action and its ability to grow its fundraising. Ensure Practical Action follows and champions best practice relating to fundraising standards and our approach to supporter care. Share and promote best practice, priorities and outcomes. Deputise for the Supporter Development Manager. Maintain compliance with organisational policies and attend mandatory training. Undertake any tasks reasonably requested by the Organisation. 4

5 PERSON PROFILE To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate: EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE Degree level or equivalent qualification. IDM or CIM qualification desirable. Knowledge of producing and delivering strong annual plans and development of budgets (income and expenditure) Knowledge and experience of direct marketing techniques and practice for fundraising Excellent project management. Knowledge of audience and donor segmentation and the use of insight as it relates to individual giving. Working knowledge of GDPR and data protection and fundraising regulations and compliance. Knowledge and understanding of industry wide good practice and developments in fundraising; awareness of trends and opportunities in the sector. Proficient use of business IT systems, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the use of CRM database preferably the Raisers Edge. Skilled direct marketer with at least 3-4 years proven experience of delivering and exceeding income targets using a multi-channel approach in a supporter development environment. Proven experience of developing and implementing supporter development activities and plans using multiple channels across offline and online media delivering activities on time and to budget. Excellent skills to be able to effectively plan, prioritise handle multiple tasks, deliver to tight timescales, working in a complex and busy environment. Experience of increasing Gift Aid take up and income Experience of negotiating and contracting fundraising agencies, negotiating contracts, working with them to build strong relationships. Excellent skills in briefing campaigns, evaluating copy, synthesizing and collating feedback. Excellent understanding of print production processes, media buying including briefing of suppliers. Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent copy writing and proof reading, strong attention to detail and the ability to present internally and externally at a high level. Good understanding and knowledge of audience development, donor segmentation and analysis. Strong analytical and research skills and proven experienced in interpreting and presenting information. Team member who can easily work as part of a cross functioning team to deliver shared goals and improved results. Presenting to a range of internal and external audiences. Hours A flexi time system is in operation around core attendance times. Full time roles are contracted at 35 hours per week.
