2 American Purchasing Society The American Purchasing Society is a professional association of buyers and purchasing managers and was the first organization to establish certification for buyers and purchasing professionals. Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) The Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) Certification is for professionals who have demonstrated the skills to successfully implement improved purchasing and supply chain practices as part of a business solution in an organization. The American Purchasing Society individual certification program was the first program for purchasing professionals. The program has been continually improved since its inception. Other organizations have realized the value of the American Purchasing Society program and have instituted programs of their own, but the American Purchasing Society program is the best because it stresses the importance of integrity and practical on the job knowledge. There are now American Purchasing Society certified professionals throughout the world. Certified Purchasing Professionals (CPP) is selected over other candidates as position requirements have become more demanding. 4

5 Eligibility Certification candidacy is open to all persons in purchasing, materials management or in an executive position. A prerequisite for eligibility for certification is a minimum of three years purchasing related experience OR a degree from a recognized college plus two years of purchasing related experience. Purchasing related experience refers to interaction with suppliers or managing those who have interaction with suppliers. Additionally, applicants must meet the requirements outlined herein. In special circumstances, certification may be awarded to an individual who has not met the minimum requirements of formal education, but who has contributed significantly to the profession and who meets all other requirements. Requirements for Certification Applicants for certification are first evaluated on their ethical standards and maturity as demonstrated by their reputation, financial responsibility record, and their ability to communicate. The applicants will have to complete the 8 half day or 4 full day course conducted by Blue Ocean Academy in UAE for CPP and 4 half day course for CPPM. On completion of the course, students have to pass a written exam. Applicants for the CPP must take an 80 question (multiple choice) examination. Applicants for the CPPM must satisfactorily complete the CPP examination, after which they must take an 80 question (multiple choice) examination on management and supervision. An applicant may apply directly for the CPP, or both the CPP and CPPM 5
