SUMMARY AIA Austin is launching the AIA Austin Leadership Collective - a new program to support the growth of all AIA Austin members. Program content will build on the successes of similar leadership programs at other AIA chapters and will aim to complement existing AIA offerings in Texas. Monthly sessions will provide professional development training on a broad range of communications and leadership topics and will vary in delivery to promote both sharing of expert knowledge and opportunities for deliberate practice. Joint sessions open to allied member groups in engineering and construction will foster interaction across professions to strengthen participants networks and learned skills. MISSION The mission of our program is to support visionary, diverse leadership for a more sustainable, equitable future in our profession. We aim to catalyze change by cultivating emerging professionals with the necessary support and guidance as the next generation of leaders to achieve successes in their professional careers, pioneer new endeavors, and grow community partnerships. AUDIENCE The intended audience of the program will be all AIA emerging professionals, with a preference given to those who have worked 3 to 7 years in the field. The class of 20 participants will be selected in order to achieve as diverse of a group as possible in the knowledge and insight they bring to the table. AMBASSADOR MODEL Participants will be expected to serve as ambassadors, immediately applying and growing their leadership skills by leading their own training sessions for a group of 4-5 peers. The ambassador model not only strengthens skills learned through practice but also amplifies the program s impact by extending the knowledge to a wider audience to extend the long-term benefits to the entire professional community. LEADING SELF / LEADING OTHERS / LEADING THROUGH SYSTEMS LEADING SELF LEADING OTHERS LEADING SYSTEMS Self Awareness Relationship Building Communication Negotiation Influencing Diversity Equity Inclusion Leading Teams Create and Lead Change Create and Lead Change Reflection Feedback Next Steps The progression of the program will expand in scale through the principal topics of Leading Self, Leading Others, and Leading through Systems. Each session will be at least half active learning and target the development of one immediately executable skill. This model aims to equip participants with the skills and networks needed to encourage larger systemic impact in the professional community. AIA Austin Leadership Collective Application 1
