This position is open until filled. Kootenai County Fire & Rescue (KCFR) is seeking an experienced individual to serve as an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT). KCFR currently employs 73 personnel to address multiple aspects of emergency response and currently responds to approximately 6,500 calls for service each year. KCFR covers approximately 113 square miles, including the cities of Post Falls, Dalton Gardens, Huetter, Fernan, Stateline and several rural areas of Kootenai County. The position of EVT is a non-exempt, at-will position. ABOUT THE POSITION JOB SUMMARY: Working under the direction of the Logistics Manager, this position is responsible for performing preventive and reactive maintenance of emergency vehicles and equipment. Duties require a high degree of technical knowledge, as well as the ability to exercise independent judgment when determining repair methods. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The position requires as needed availability in addition to the regular work week. Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) duties will include: Perform preventative and reactive maintenance and repair; troubleshoot and diagnosis issues/problems. Outfit new emergency vehicles and apparatus with required equipment to place in to service. Work closely with the Logistics Manager on maintenance, repairs, and scheduling. Provide assistance to internal and external customers professionally. Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with coworkers and peers. Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Adhere to all applicable policies and standard operation procedures. Ensure data entry, record keeping, and database(s) are accurate and up-to-date. Follow all other instructions and performs any other duties, as may be required in a timely manner. 1

2 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will typically have 4 years of journey-level mechanic or equipment service mechanic experience with emphasis in diagnostics, maintenance and repair of diesel/gasoline engines, heavy trucks and fire apparatus. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and/or Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications are highly desired. The ideal qualifications consist of a combination of education and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position. *Qualified individuals shall be given 2 years from date of hire to complete and maintain the required certifications to meet NFPA 1071: Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional. KCFR reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine whether the combination of education and experience are commensurate with the requirements of the position. LICENSE/CERTIFICATE AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application submittal. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license; without any restrictions that would not allow an individual to be insured; Class B CDL with tank vehicle endorsement preferred. *Qualified individuals shall be given 1 year to obtain their Class B CDL with tank endorsement. Must possess and provide mechanic tools necessary to accomplish basic repairs. Pass a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation. Complete a pre-employment medical evaluation and annual evaluations each year. Pass a pre-employment drug test as well as random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: An Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) will demonstrate the following: Ability to actively listen and follow oral & written instructions; asks appropriate questions. Must possess good mechanical skills and the ability to solve technical problems & challenges. Must possess the ability read and interpret prints and other engineering documents. Must have the ability to complete and solve basic math problems. Maintain good judgment and decision making skills; service oriented. Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software and vehicle diagnostic software. Excellent social skills and intelligence. Ability to perform calmly and efficiently in crunch-time situations. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL: Have the ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism; multi-task and prioritize work assignments. Be an excellent communicator with the ability to express them self clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Display excellent time management skills and maintain punctuality, attendance, and dependability. Possess and maintain Class B CDL with tank vehicle endorsement. Possess and maintain ASE and/or EVT certifications. Demonstrate the ability to work independently. 3 WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside a standard shop/warehouse environment; occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including temperature extremes during the day. Individual is routinely exposed to hearing alarms, machines, and hazards associated with the maintenance and repair of heavy apparatus and equipment, including noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, solvents and oils. Work is frequently performed under hazardous and adverse conditions, including but not limited to proximity to moving mechanical equipment or electrical currents; high noise environments requiring hearing protection; elevated heights and confined spaces. The individual will be exposed to heights of 14 feet frequently and heights up to 120 feet are probable. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS COMPENSATION: The compensation range for this position is currently between $50,024 and $70,366 dependent upon years of service with KCFR. KCFR reserves the right to set the specific salary at the level approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners (BOFC). HEALTH INSURANCE AND HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT: An employer paid health care benefit package is currently provided including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) currently funded at $2,000/yr. for a family or $1,000/yr. for an individual (prorated for mid-year hires). OTHER BENEFITS: This position is automatically covered by the Public Retirement System Idaho (PERSI) rule of 90. Additional retirement supplements include the self-funded PERSI 401(k) Choice plan and a 457 Plan. This position is eligible for Social Security. WORK SCHEDULE and LEAVES: This position is an FLSA non-exempt position that generally works a minimum of 40 hours per week (M-F). The position currently accrues 18 hours of sick leave per month for a maximum of 1,560 hours and accrues 5 to 20 hours per month of vacation, depending on length of service, for a maximum of two years worth of vacation accrual at one time. There are currently 9 paid holidays and 1 paid personal day per year as well. PAY SCHEDULE: All KCFR employees are paid twice per month for a total of 24 pay periods per year.
