5 Business Dept. Article By: Danielle G Over the past month, I have become increasingly involved with helping in the Business Department. It s been a blast! Members and staff are very welcoming, patient with, and supportive of me as I learn to do the various tasks and projects, which help keep the Business Department running. Two of my favorite tasks are updating the paper and electronic Post-Its. The daily Post-its keep members informed of activities happening around the clubhouse, each day. I would love to have the opportunity to teach this skill to other members! Working side by side with Addie, in Housing, I have been able to hone old skills, and acquire new ones. This has given my self-confidence a tremendous boost! Currently, we are busy streamlining a system for providing members with a comprehensive list of housing resources. Please join us! I also enjoy supporting Carrie, in the Vocational Department. There, I update the vocational book with employment listings and make copies of resources, as needed. As this department grows, we are looking for more members to get involved. Come check us out! Assisting Katie with intakes enables me to connect with and welcome new members. If you are looking for practice getting comfortable working face to face with people in the community, this is a wonderful opportunity! Before becoming active in the Business Department, I felt ill-equipped and nervous about seeking employment. With the support and encouragement of the Business Department Team, I have been able to engage in work that provides me with transferable skills that give my life direction and purpose. From tracking member attendance and handling mail, to assisting Jan with the newsletter and watering plants, there are numerous opportunities to get involved! Whether you are looking for meaningful ways to become engaged with and support our clubhouse, or you need to brush up on skills, and learn new ones, the Business Department is an awesome place to start! I hope to see you here! 5
