1 Estates and Facilities Division The Post POST AND PORTERING ASSISTANT REF: GG384 The postholder will sort and distribute post and parcels to customers across the campus, moving furniture and equipment and providing excellent customer service. The precise duties will be agreed in discussion with the Manager. Person Specification The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix B. GENERAL Salary Salary will be 15,052 to 15,976 per annum on Grade 2 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting date The post is available immediately on an indefinite full-time basis. The role holder may be required to work, on occasions, into the evening. In addition, there may be a requirement to work any five days from seven. Advance notice will be given of weekend working. Terms and Conditions of appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for General Grades staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered.

2 Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of 20 days plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. 5 APPENDIX A JOB DESCRIPTION REF: GG384 Job Title: Grade: Department: Reporting to: Post and Portering Assistant Grade 2 (General) Estates and Facilities Division Post and Portering Manager Job Function/Purpose: With over 18,000 campus users on a 360 acre campus, the Post and Portering team provide high volume services to the University. The team have a well-deserved reputation for providing excellent customer service to staff and students. Main duties include: Sorting internal and external mail, franking mail and providing a mail delivery and collection service across site. Provision of a counter service to student residents collecting mail; handling queries received face to face, by telephone and . This will involve checking identity, following security procedures and using associated equipment provided. Setting out furniture for meetings, lectures and other University events to include Open Days, Applicant Days, Assessments and Graduation. Loading and unloading vehicles. Driving University vehicles. Movement and transportation of furniture, goods and equipment ranging from a single box to contents of entire offices. Support University projects requiring relocation of large numbers of campus users to include movement of possessions, furniture, disconnection and reconnection of I.T. Recycling furniture on site to include dismantling and assembly of flat pack furniture. Carry out all duties in a smart, professional and safe manner and respond to any requests for assistance with a customer focussed, can-do approach. Maintaining a safe working environment - inspecting equipment and workplaces using checklists. Maintaining the campus environment - supporting quality control initiatives to maintain and improve standards.

6 Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all campus users - working to improve and maintain customer perceptions and satisfaction. Accurately recording basic information (such as number of visitors to the counter or number of parcels received) to ensure detailed management information is available as and when required, to feed into the review of Key Performance Indicators. Undertake any other duties that are commensurate with the grade of the post, to meet the operational needs of the business. November 2016
