You will work collaboratively and in partnership with your peers, directors and trustees and will work closely with staff across Mind. You will also work with other stakeholders and external contacts. You will have a significant level of responsibility and autonomy in a senior leadership role. You will deputise for the Chief Operating Officer internally and/or externally. Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. You are expected to contribute to this aim Specifically, the post is responsible for: The provision of high quality financial advice to the Trustees, Mind senior team and to managers The provision of a high quality finance service, with a strong customer service ethos Developing and implementing Mind s finance strategy Co-developing and enabling a financial strategy for the Local Mind network, working closely with Local Mind Finance Heads and Directors Oct 17 Head of Finance Page 1 of 5

2 Establishing and delivering a procurement function across National Mind and the Local Mind network Maintaining and managing Mind s Business Continuity plan Ensuring the active involvement and support of the Finance team in the work of Mind s front line departments, and ensuring close working relationships with the HR team Ensuring Mind is a high performing organisation in relation to Workplace Wellbeing Key responsibilities All responsibilities and activities within this post are in accordance with the terms and spirit of Mind s mission, vision, values, objectives, policies, procedures and practices. 1. To maintain, review and manage the implementation of an Income Generation and Finance strategy for Mind (including Mind Retail), and provide a strategic lead to the Finance function to achieve Mind s mission, vision, values and strategic objectives. This includes ensuring that the Finance team actively enables the delivery of the Income Generation and Finance strategy. 2. To co-develop, with Local Mind Finance Heads and Directors, a financial strategy for the Local Mind network, and to actively enable its implementation. To establish and manage a single procurement strategy and process across National Mind and those parts of the Local Mind network who wish to participate. 3. To ensure financial planning, delivery, accountability and budget management for the charity, department and cross organisational work programmes and to lead, as project manager, on corporate projects as required. Regular projects will include budget setting and financial planning. 4. To set budgets and financial forecasts including the development of corporate assumptions, and advise senior management and trustees on issues such as reserves, pension deficit, resource allocation and financing. Analysing financial information, providing financial advice, and contributing to financial decision making. 5. To establish pricing policy and ensure the provision of an effective pricing function for funding applications and strong financial involvement in pricing decisions. 6. To ensure the provision of a high quality customer focused finance department service, meeting key performance standards including high levels of customer satisfaction, and the provision of high quality accounting support to customer departments. As part of this, to ensure that organisation wide financial policies and processes are in place and maintained, monitoring and evaluating their compliance and effectiveness. To lead the development of changes to working practices to enable a strong and efficient interface between the work of the Finance and Fundraising teams, including ensuring processes and systems are both efficient and synergistic 8. To ensure the development and operation of Audit, tax compliance and investment functions, including coordinating the delivery of Mind s internal and external audit programmes, managing counter fraud policy, optimising tax compliance and recovery, and overseeing investment management. 9. To develop and manage Mind s Business Continuity Plan and implementation arrangements 10. Mandatory attendance at Audit Committee, Business Management Committee and Council of Management on a quarterly basis to report financial performance, financial and operational risks and other finance matters impacting the financial resource of the charity and implementing decisions of these bodies. 11. Proactively and regularly monitor, review and evaluate your own, the team and the department s priorities, objectives and performance via the supervision and appraisal process and lead on effective communication about the department s work and ensuring this is aligned to other organisational communication. As part of this, to lead a high performing finance management team with the Senior Financial and Management Accountants 12. Keep abreast of changes in the sector and resulting external trends, developing and maintaining contacts with other organisations to help influence and guide Mind on complex and significant organisational issues. Being an ambassador, spokesperson and representative of Mind at relevant times and if necessary, in the media. 13. To share responsibility for the Infrastructure directorate providing peer support to other Heads and cover as required and to deputise for the Chief Operating Officer internally or externally, as required, including providing out of office cover, being on call and dealing with emergencies. 14. To prepare, attend and contribute to meetings, briefings, reviews, due diligence and auditing and compliance activities (internally or externally). Reporting with solutions/considerations (verbally or in writing) and delivering presentations. 15. To adhere to relevant legal and statutory requirements including the Data Protection Act, Health and Safety at Work Act and Charity and Financial regulations. 16. Proven Senior managerial experience of leading, planning, organising, controlling, managing, developing and directing strategic and operational activities including multi-disciplinary areas of work which are complex and/or diverse and of delivering outcomes against agreed objectives 2. Outstanding experience of providing leadership and management of a team, section or department including line management of direct reports 3. Outstanding track record at of contributing to corporate and cross organisational business strategy 4. Demonstrable excellent and effective influencing and negotiating skills and political judgement with proven success in building productive professional relationships and partnerships with a wide range of individuals and organisations 5. Demonstrable experience of leading change and transformation with demonstrable qualities as a lead change agent 6. Demonstrable senior management level experience in programme and project management 7. Demonstrable senior management level experience of financial and budget management 8. Demonstrable commitment to your own continuing professional and personal development 9. Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with individuals, groups, organizations and other internal and external stakeholders. 10. Significant experience of managing performance, monitoring and evaluation including developing and delivering quality improvement 11. Professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent) and degree level education (or equivalent) with post qualification experience of at least 8 years. 12. Previous experience in a similar role in a similar sized organisation. Skills 1.
