3 Dimensions: Responsible for contributing to the development and delivery of the SYPTE s Communication Strategy which includes media liaison, public relations,events, sponsorship and communications services. The role will also be required to provide communications support for key organisational projects, initiatives and developments in order to protect SYPTE s public image and reputation. The Communications Section currently comprises of 3 employees, and the Marketing Section comprises of 8 employees. The overall Communications Section budget is approximately 70k per annum. General Responsibilities: SYPTE s aim is to provide the best Public Transport system possible. The objective is the pursuit of excellence in meeting the needs of all potential passengers. SYPTE and its Managers are fully committed to the learning and development of employees. Responsibilities/Key Accountabilities: 1. Assist the development and delivery of the SYPTE s strategic communications activities and where appropriate manage aspects of the media liaison and public relations service in order to enhance and maintain the SYPTE s public image and reputation. 2. Actively contribute to the delivery of a seamless service across public and media relations, internal communications, marketing and Design and Print aligned to employee, customer and stakeholder requirements. 3. Lead the provision of communications support for key organisational projects and developments including the quarterly 4XY project, and media monitoring services, to ensure these are effectively supported and meet all client support requirements. 4. Act as the SYPTE s media/ public relations spokesperson where appropriate, ensuring that the views of the organisation are clearly and accurately expressed, and assist in the provision of advice on corporate information and media relations strategies. 5. Assist the Senior Public Relations Officers, to develop and determine the standards and procedures to be applied in all areas of media liaison and public relations, events and sponsorship activities aligned to customer and stakeholder requirements.

Respond to press and public enquiries by liaising as necessary with others, both internally and externally to facilitate a prompt and appropriate response in line with the Media Relations Policy. 7. Develop and maintain good working relationships with various stakeholders, both internally and externally and other key partners who have an influence on media outputs or public relations activities in order to enhance and maintain the Executive s public image and that of public transport in general. 8. Develop and deliver various media and public relations campaigns, including the production of associated literature, communications materials, and other written material for internal and external publications, locally, regionally and for the trade, as appropriate to ensure alignment to customer requirements, in order to maximise such media and communications opportunities. 9. Develop and deliver official events and launches across the SYPTE ensuring all such events are professionally co-ordinated and maximise opportunities for positive media coverage and publicity. 10. Pro-actively plan and produce high quality, outcome focussed project plans, for all activities utilising existing and new procedures and processes formed with the Communications and Marketing Sections. 11. Assist in the development of the SYPTE s website, associated e-communication and social networking platforms by managing the update processes including liaison with and maintenance with other departments; communicating with external suppliers to ensure accurate and timely information is published and; continuing to maintain the process to provide continuity of service. 12. Provide any necessary assistance and support to the Senior Public Relations Officers, Head of Marketing and Communications and Internal Communications Officer in order to ensure that an effective communications service is provided at all time. 13. Lead on organisational projects as directed by the Senior Public Relations Officer (Events/Sponsorship/Integrated Campaigns). 14. Act on new and changing opportunities, identifying and advising the Senior Public Relations Officers on new initiatives and innovative media and public relations campaigns that enhance the image of the SYPTE and its products and services and public transport in general. 15. Any other duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Senior Public Relations Officer (Events/Sponsorship/Integrated Campaigns). Planning and Organisation: The Public Relations Officer is responsible for overseeing various areas of responsibility as determined by the Senior Public Relations Officer in order to meet departmental objectives and corporate needs. The Public Relations Officer will be responsible for pro-actively managing their time/workload to ensure the timely delivery of all necessary communications support to key organisational projects and developments they are assigned responsibility for including the development and management of project plans.

5 The Public Relations Officer will be responsible for the prioritisation and management of workload within their area to ensure the departmental Service Level Agreement is continually achieved. Arrange, organise and attend internal and external meetings as necessary. Produce and maintain reports and reporting processes to inform key stakeholders of the Communications Section and carry out this activity on both a routine and ad-hoc basis. Contribute to team working within the Communications and Marketing Sections and liaise with others to continuously improve cross-functional efficiency and the promotion of the organisation s products and services. Monitor and manage performance and evaluation of activities in order to ensure the effective delivery of all targets and objectives set. Decision Making and Use of Judgement: Decisions/judgements made within and on behalf of the team are generally based on procedural, experience and knowledge. Further guidance is sought from the Senior Public Relations Officer as and when required. Regularly advise client departments of proposed promotions and media campaigns and their cost implications. Use information from the Senior Public Relations Officer and internal and external information to prioritise and allocate resources. Use judgement and make rapid decisions where urgent external factors require urgent action to be taken. Participate in organisational decision making through membership of formal groups and committees. Internal and External Relationships: Collaborative working with other members of the Organisational Development Management Team and with other Departments in order to ensure ownership and co-ordination of key media messages. Continually liaise with the appropriate personnel from external organisations for example officers of local authorities, transport operators and local and national media organisations in order to enhance and maintain the Executive s public image and perception and that of public transport in general. Collaborative working with other members of the Communications & Marketing Sections, Organisational Development Department and others within the SYPTE, including those working on key organisational projects and developments that have communication support requirements.
