2 ABOUT THE GRAIN ELEVATOR AND PROCESSING SOCIETY (GEAPS) The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS pronounced Jeeps ) is an international professional association of individuals that work in the grain handling and processing industry. Since 1930 GEAPS has fostered leadership, innovation and excellence in grain-related industry operations. Our members began collaborating nearly 90 years ago to create and sustain safer, more efficient operations. We are a global network of industry professionals. GEAPS has more than 2,800 individual members from 1,150 companies and organizations represented in over 20 countries. We are your knowledge resource. Whether it s participating in online or on-site educational programs, browsing the resources on our website, or taking a facility tour as part of a chapter meeting, our members have access to a wide range of tools to build their skills. HISTORY & MISSION How We Got Started GEAPS is nearly a century old and it all got started back in Two elevator superintendents first discussed launching an organization to help them better address the challenges of running grain facilities. Three years later, in 1930, GEAPS began as the Society of Grain Superintendents (SOGES) with its first meeting in Chicago. Soon chapters formed in grain centers around the Great Lakes and across the continent. While the challenges faced by grain operations professionals have changed since GEAPS inception, getting together to share ideas remains key to our mission. Mission/Vision Mission Statement: GEAPS is a not-for-profit international professional society dedicated to providing its members with forums to generate leadership, innovation and excellence in grain-related industry operations. Vision: To be the knowledge resource for the world of grain handling and processing industry operation. Objectives/Values Information: Generate information, education and training programs to meet operations needs Innovation: Promote operations efficiency through innovation and technology Networking: Provide forums for networking, problem-solving and solution-sharing Professionalism: Develop excellence in leadership and professionalism Quality: Promote quality in grain operations Safety and Sustainability: Encourage and enable safety, health and environmental responsibility Core Competencies GEAPS Knowledge Resource focus was outlined by a task force that developed a list of nine core competencies that people in the grain operations industry need to be successful in their jobs. These core competencies were identified as: 1. Quality Management involving quality definition, determination, preservation and assurance. 2. Equipment Management involving equipment types, specifications, installation, performance, operation, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. 3. Systems and Operations Technology Management involving integrated equipment for materials handling, automation, sensors, controls, computers, system analysis, and process optimization. 4. Facility Operations Management involving project analysis, planning, and execution, construction management, grain receiving, handling and shipping management, housekeeping, operational efficiency, energy use, transportation and logistics. 3 5. Agri-Business Environment and Management Practice involving economics, finances, purchasing, origination, marketing, customer and community relations, and ethics. 6. Property and Casualty Risk Management involving risk analysis, evaluation, abatement and control, emergency preparedness and response, regulatory compliance, security, and insurance. 8. Facilities Maintenance and Design involving equipment operation and maintenance, sanitation and pest control, energy systems, automation, facilities planning and design and project management. 9. Process Flow Operations involving equipment types, specifications, sizing and installation, process flow and system analysis and optimization, grain preparation, particle size reduction and segregation and product packaging and load out. Membership & Chapters The Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) is an organization made up of individuals who work in the grain handling and processing industry and those that supply, advise or collaborate with the industry. GEAPS is run for and by its members. Employees, employers, students and grain industry leaders across the world have benefited from GEAPS membership. GEAPS draws on the expertise of its members to identify education and training needs for the industry and deliver programs that reflect current trends and best practices. 4 POSITION SUMMARY Chief Staff Execu ve: Strategic Rela ons and Governance Leader The CSE reports to the Interna onal President, GEAPS chief elected officer, with oversight by the Interna onal Board Execu ve Commitee. The Strategic Rela ons and Governance Leader is GEAPS chief staff execu ve [CSE] and co-staff-execu ve with the Opera ons and Component Rela ons Leader. It is expected that the CSE will serve as an Interna onal board officer by appointment to the posi on of Execu ve Vice President as defined by the Interna onal Bylaws. POSITION PURPOSE The CSE as Execu ve Vice President performs the du es as defined by the bylaws to include: Develop, project and present to the Interna onal Board of Directors and/or Execu ve Commitee, plans or programs appropriate and necessary to the pursuit of the associa on's Mission and achievement of its General Objec ves. Par cipate in the development of and execute or direct the execu on of all policies of and programs established by the Interna onal Board of Directors and/or Execu ve commitee. Manage or oversee the management of the associa on's business affairs, consistent with the policies established by the Interna onal Board of Directors and/or Execu ve commitee. Manage the Interna onal office of the associa on, including the hiring and dismissal of all paid employees, consultants or contractors. Cooperate with the Interna onal Secretary in the management of the associa on's financial affairs The CSE as Strategic Rela ons and Governance Leader develops and oversees GEAPS governance, leadership development and succession, industry rela ons, human, capital and financial assets. KEY CONTACTS Regular and frequent contact with GEAPS leaders, members, prospec ve members, customers, prospec ve customers, program and service developers and providers, business equipment and services vendors to facilitate communica ons and manage programs and services rela ve to major responsibili es. Regular contact with grain industry companies and organiza ons, industry suppliers, allied industry associa ons, academic and research ins tu ons, government agencies, and other the public and private interests as necessary and appropriate to advance GEAPS strategic plan and respond to inquiries about GEAPS' programs, services, and projects. Collaborates with the Opera ons and Component Rela ons Leader, specifically, and all GEAPS staff team members generally on programs, services and ac vi es related to the posi on responsibili es. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES GOVERNANCE & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Develop high quality business strategies and plans ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term Strategic Plan objec ves. Recommend to the Interna onal Board of Directors and Execu ve Commitee governance structure and policies to support development and implementa on of GEAPS Strategic Plan Direct and oversee the development and implementa on governance structures and policies. 5 GOVERNANCE & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (con nued) Serve as lead staff liaison to the Interna onal Board of Directors and Execu ve Commitee. Serve as lead staff liaison to the GEAPS Founda on. By appointment of the Interna onal President, would also serve as GEAPS execu ve staff representa ve to the Kansas State University Grain Science and Industry Advisory Council. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT Recommend to the Interna onal Board of Directors and Execu ve Commitee opera ons policies to support development and implementa on of GEAPS Strategic Plan. Direct and oversee the development and implementa on opera ons policies, member programs, services and projects. Report to the Interna onal Board of Directors and Execu ve Commitee the status of programs, services and projects. Lead and mo vate staff to advance employee engagement and develop a high performing team. Manage human resources strategy through collabora on with the Opera ons & Component Rela ons Leader on staff recruitment, development, performance review and evalua ons, compensa on, and benefits. Contribute to GEAPS team success by achieving related results as needed. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT In collabora on with Interna onal Treasurer and Secretary, develop and recommend to the Execu ve Commitee general opera ons and special project budgets. Oversee implementa on and management of general opera ons and special project budgets. Oversee the prepara on, filing and records maintenance of federal, state and local jurisdic on corporate tax filings and reports. STRATEGIC MARKETING and INDUSTRY RELATIONS Oversee development and implementa on of strategic marke ng plans for industry rela ons, membership development, and non-dues-revenue programs and services sales. Execute industry outreach visits to build strong industry rela onships. Serve as the lead staff liaison to GEAPS Affiliated Industry Associa ons and other allied-industry organiza ons. MEMBER COMMUNICATIONS Oversee the development and implementa on of member communica ons plans. Oversee the development and management of GEAPS website and social media. PUBLICATIONS Oversee the development, produc on and distribu on of publica ons to the member newsleter, the member directory, buyers guides, and other publica ons printed or electronic. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS Oversee the planning, development and produc on of professional-development, con nuing-educa on and creden al programs. CONFERENCE, EXPOSITION & MEETING SERVICES Oversee conference, exposi on, mee ng and related-event planning and produc on. YOUR PARTNER IN GROWTH Position Overview 5

6 GRAIN OPERATIONS TECHNICAL SERVICES Respond to or redirect as appropriate inquires about grain handling, storage and processing opera ons interests and issues. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and ten years of related experience in an organiza onal leadership posi on or equivalent combina on of educa on and experience. 10 years of experience as an execu ve or senior staff manager and/or volunteer leader service as an officer or director of a not-for-profit organiza on. Preference is given to candidates who meet the minimum qualifica ons and have achieved the Cer fied Associa on Execu ve [CAE] creden al conferred by the American Society Associa on Execu ves [ASAE] and/or also have knowledge of and experience in the grain handling and process industry to include GEAPS-member and prospec ve-member employers or other key GEAPS stakeholders such as allied or related-industry associa ons or ins tu ons. TOP PRIORITIES OPERATIONAL Work with the International Executive Committee to ensure that the governance and volunteer leadership structure and succession planning is well aligned to achieve and sustain success in the pursuit of GEAPS envisioned future. Work with the International Executive Committee to ensure that the human resources policies and protocols are appropriate and sufficient to attract and retain skilled, experienced and competent workforce to effectively and efficiently support implementation of the strategic plan. Ensure that the staff team structure and deployment are well aligned to effectively and efficiently execute on the strategic direction and priorities set by the International Board. Engage with executives and senior managers of member- and prospective-member employers to increase and sustain corporate support for employee membership and engagement in GEAPS programs and volunteer leadership service. Engage with appropriate staff executives or management leaders of other not-for-profit grain industry organizations and institutions with shared or substantially similar interests to identify and respond to opportunities for collaboration.
