Founded in 1846, the School enrols students from Early Learning to Grade 12. PURPOSE OF POSITION This position is responsible for managing the operations of Café 175 with a focus on freshly made produce, with a variety of healthy options for café patrons. 2 ABOUT CAFÉ 175 Ethos Expectations Volunteers Operating Hours Café 175 (also known as the Tuckshop or the Canteen) has traditionally operated with a focus on freshly made produce with a variety of healthy options including rolls, sandwiches, wraps, pastries, cakes, salad, jacket potatoes, soup, pasta and fruit. Some of which are daily specials. Choices of what to offer are traditionally a decision of the Café 175 Manager in consultation with the School s Management, parent volunteers and students. Prices are usually set by the Café 175 Manager in consultation with the Business Manager if required. Teachers and / or Prefects are on duty to maintain order in the café queue. Café 175 has always operated with a view to making the experience enjoyable for all parents and carers, who wish to be involved in the school community. The required hours are 10:30 to 1:45pm and volunteers must hold registration to work with vulnerable people (volunteer status). Duties include serving students during opening hours. The preparation of orders and other café items made on campus eg jellies. Cleaning, sweeping and washing up at the end of the day. The hours of operation usually coincide with timetabled breaks eg at recess between 10:30 and 11:00am and again for lunch between 12:55 and 1:30pm. At times the café operates additional hours to ensure access for students whose timetabled activities are outside of normal operating hours eg Terms 1 and 4 for before school swimming and rowing training. Special days eg swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals; café hours are altered to accommodate these activities. Food Safe certificate. Practical experience in the preparation and selling of food products in a commercial environment. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. English Language Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Food Hygiene Sound knowledge of hygiene regulations associated with food preparation and experience in instructing others in relation to safe food handling techniques. Workplace Health and Safety Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, including anaphylaxis. Clerical Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Initiative A willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges. Previous experience in a school based tuckshop or canteen is desirable but not essential. KEY TASKS AND DUTIES Administration Order food from wholesalers and raise purchase orders. In January each year, prepare a roster to be sent out to parents two weeks before the start of school. This activity takes a maximum of six hours, is updated after Easter and again prior to the commencement of each school term. Arrange the café float with the business office. 5 Community Liaison Meet and talk with Grade 7 students about the café during the first two weeks of Term 1 each year. Attend all functions which may encourage new parents to be a part of the café eg the Grade 7 Welcome Function, Grade 7 Parent Information Evening in Term 4 (this is essential). Preparation Set up the café the day before school begins, having placed orders in December the year before or early in February. Café Operations Deliver a range of food options for café patrons in consultation with School management as required, having regard for healthy options and in accordance with the School s Anaphylaxis policy. Serve food and beverages. Prepare and cook food and beverages. Process sales, taking cash and providing appropriate change. Supervise volunteers. Cleaning Maintain cleanliness at all times. Undertake spring cleaning at the end of each Term, eg defrost fridges, freezers and clean pie heater. Volunteers Recruit, organise and draw up roster for volunteers. Ensure all volunteers possess current working with vulnerable people registration. Other Other duties and responsibilities, as reasonably required by the Business Manager, for which you are skilled and capable of performing. 6 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Employment Legislation Specific conditions of employment are derived from the Fair Work Act 2009, the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2010 and the Launceston Church Grammar School (General Staff) Enterprise Agreement. These documents may be viewed at: Fair Work Act Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award Launceston Church Grammar School (General Staff) Enterprise Agreement Remuneration Hours & Days of Work Professional Learning Wages are based on School Operational Services Employee Grade 2. The commensurate pay rate for this role is $ per hour, which is based on the full time equivalent salary of $47, Part-time employees not required to work during the School Term breaks may average their wages over a period of 12 months. This position is required to work 6 hours per day, 5 days per week (Monday to Friday, 60 hours per fortnight) primarily during School Term time. A typical day is 8.30am to 2.30pm. During Terms 1 and 4 additional time may be required, with a start time may of 8am. This position is not required during the designated school holiday periods as indicated in the School calendar. This position returns from leave on the Monday of the same week as each Term commences. This position is required to work 1 day (6 hours) during the Staff Planning week in January each year. This position concludes each year on the staff planning day in December, as indicated in the school calendar. 7 Working with Vulnerable People Registration Workplace Health and Safety In accordance with the provisions of the Working with Vulnerable People Act 2013 (Tasmania), all Launceston Church Grammar School employees are required to register to work with vulnerable people. This registration is commonly referred to as the Working with Children Check. Registration is issued by the Department of Justice; please refer to for further information. Registration is valid for three years. Employees are responsible for the cost of registration. At the commencement of employment and every three years thereafter, employees must supply the Human Resources Department with a copy of their registration details or complete a Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Statutory Declaration until their registration application has been processed. Failure to obtain and / or maintain registration may result in termination of employment. As an employee of Launceston Church Grammar School, while at work you must: Take reasonable care for your own health and safety; and Take reasonable care that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others; and Comply, so far as you are reasonably able to, with reasonable instruction provided by the School; and Co-operate with reasonable policy and procedure relating to health and safety at the workplace that has been notified to staff by the School. Specific terms of reference can be found in Clause 28 the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (Tasmania). First Aid All LCGS employees are required to hold the HLTAID004 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting qualification. Employees are responsible for initial cost of this qualification. The School provides for the 3 yearly re-certification of this qualification, following commencement of employment. Travel Co-Curricular Programme This position is based at the Senior Campus, however the need to travel both locally and interstate may arise in the course of duties. Involvement with the School s co-curricular programme is welcomed. Such involvement attracts an allowance, appropriate to the activity, in addition to salary.
