Round-Table Meeting, 9 November 2012 Hotelbloom! in Brussels, Belgium Summary This Round Table will focus on the contextual environment the boundaries - which plays a crucial role in creating the right organisation for the future. Diversity and inclusion in R&D is one important aspect that every company needs to take into account if it wants to remain attractive in the workplace. Ensuring continued supply of competent people in science is an on-going challenge for industry. But where will R&D staff and talent come from and how will they be retained in the future? How to make industrial R&D attractive for careers in the future? How is HR in R&D going to change in the future? How can European R&D find a way to reduce the exodus of key skills? Issues addressed < When we find properly skilled people, how can we best integrate them into the workplace? Going beyond integration, how do people adapt with the global world in the future? < How to attract and keep people from different parts of the world? The increasingly global environment requires a different perspective on the way of working, with the ability to accommodate people from different cultures (eg. integration of the family, etc.) < Gender diversity in science-based industries: promoting women into R&D management < Generational different attitudes to work: how does an organisation need to adapt? What can we learn from intergenerational partnering schemes? < How does HR support an organisation which is working increasingly with external partners (universities, SMEs, etc.), therefore requiring different ways of working? < How does HR deal with the increasing part-time of employees or people based in different part of the organisation? Target Audience HR Managers, R&D Managers, External Relations Managers, Public Affairs & Strategy Managers Chairman Dr Andrew Waller, HR Director, R&D HR, Unilever Innovation Management 8 Online registration until 29 October 2012 On EIRMA Website: Key themes Business strategy Research Asset Management People and Knowledge Public frameworks

Why not the key skill market? Why is it so attractive to go to work in the States and not so attractive to do the same in a European country? Is it true for all European countries? Are there any lessons to be learned from factual experiences? What are the reasons for European industrial R&D to be less appealing for bright, smart, enthusiastic people? Are there any exceptions? What went, and is still going, badly wrong? Should we, Industry, do something to improve the performances of our educational systems? Starting where? University, Secondary school, primary school, Berufschule? What should European industry do in order to motivate talented people? Which are the values and ethics that we should communicate about? This presentation will be given by an EIRMA member who has experienced three different roles: executive, university professor and entrepreneur.
