Wednesday, March 23 12:30-5:00 PM Registration 1:00-5:00 PM Pre-conference Workshop-Free-open to anyone who wants to participate Compensation Salary Survey System presented by Mike Swallow and Ken Topham, Technology Net, Co./Personnel Systems and Tedd Povar, Associate Director, Virginia Institute of Government Thursday, March 24 7:00 AM- 5:00 PM Vendor exhibits Join us for a hands on workshop/demonstration of the Virginia Institute of Government s Compensation Survey System (a statewide web-based, local government pay and classification information sharing system). Representatives from Technology Net (the system developer/provider) and Virginia Institute of Government will present an interactive lab which will include an overview of the system including the value to and responsibilities of the users, the cost of participating, as well as the opportunity to roll up your sleeves to experience (or if a current subscriber, get help) using the system. In order to fully participate, please bring a Wi-Fi enabled laptop, your pay plan and most recent payroll information on job titles and current actual pay and benefits, and applicable HR policies. *This pre-conference session is open to anyone who wants to participate free of charge. 7:30-8:30 AM Registration/breakfast buffet

2 8:30-10:00 AM Welcome and keynote presentation-positive Social Risks presented by Chad Littlefield 10:00-10:30 AM Break How might we create more conversations that matter in our organizations? Chad Littlefield, former TEDx speaker, presents a compelling and thoughtful perspective on how to Rebrand HR by breaking down communication barriers and boosting connection and engagement. The session will cover a new framework for viewing our interpersonal interactions along with tips on how to ask more powerful questions. You will walk away from this session with two concrete, actionable tools to ask more powerful questions to create connections worth remembering both inside and outside of work. 10:30-11:45 AM Concurrent sessions: 1. Evaluating Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHP) presented by Donna Nixon, Pierce Group Benefits US healthcare spending exceeded over $3 Trillion in Local Government entities can no longer afford to make purchasing decisions about their Group Health Plan without engaging their employees as a way to help reduce costs. This session will discuss CDHP principles and how they work together to lower insurance costs and improve the health and well-being of your employees. It will also provide the tools and resources to successfully implement a CDHP at your workplace. 2. Public Sector Ethics: Someone is Always Watching! presented by Steve J. Mason, Sr., Acting Director of Human Resources and James L. Banks, Jr., City Attorney, City of Alexandria This session will address the topic of public sector ethics from the perspective of the committed public servant. When local government and its valued employees are committed to responsive public service, highly ethical conduct by those employees is a necessary result. Through a case study approach involving the recent efforts of the City of Alexandria, VA, attendees will study how an organization can engage in a thorough review of its ethical practices, thoroughly revise those practices, and thereby increase public confidence in the ethical practices of the local government.

Expect to leave with practical ideas on how to foster more positive communication in your organization. 2. Managing Stress in a Changing Environment-the Employee Assistance Program as Your Consulting Partner presented by Jason Youngblood, LPC/CPT CIGNA The prevalence of mental health, substance abuse, and stress in the workforce has a profound impact on organizations. In this session we will discuss these trends and the physiological causes of acute and chronic stress reactions, and the impact of chronic stress on the body and mind. You will learn best practices in leveraging an EAP to promote behavioral wellness.
