3 Company Background Environmental Solutions through Partnership (ESP) Ltd is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy founded in 2004 which delivers services by working closely in partnership with its clients and consultancy partners who share the same values and objectives. A partnership approach means building long term relationships with clients by ensuring that effective solutions are provided that are appropriate to the brief, the customers needs, best practice and current legislation. Our consultants deliver solutions for business and government clients, assisting them in managing and mitigating their resource use and related risks. Our consultants have provided expert technical advice to both the United Kingdom Government and the European Commission. About the ESP Internship ESP is looking for the next generation of individuals to help us grow in all our market sectors and expand our current services through acquisition of new talent. Our internships cover a variety of the practice s activities; from landscape planning to environmental management, but also encompassing business development, marketing and administration. The year s placement is your chance to experience life in a professional practice, working with and shadowing professionals from a range of backgrounds. During your time with ESP you can expect to; 2

4 Assess planning applications and draft landscape planning comments under the supervision of qualified landscape architects (on behalf of a Local Planning Authority); Learn drafting skills and plan production for landscape schemes; Understand how ecological landscape restorations are achieved and work on environmental statements for submission under EIA regulations; Work on client s Environmental Management Systems, including aspects & impacts matrices, legal registers, shadow environmental audits; Research legal requirements and changes to environmental legislation for our practice publications; Undertake data interpretation for environmental reports; Shadow our Business Development Manager, visit clients and attend networking events; Write practice newsletters and marketing materials; Undertake general business administration tasks to understand how a small business operates; Attend site visits to a variety of locations across the UK to understand the work we do on site. Term The term of this placement is flexible with an anticipated staring date between May-September 2018, but would look to run for a period up to 12 months. 3-5 days per week would be required although this too can be flexible to suit individual commitments. Successful applicants will be required to complete a volunteer s agreement to cover the period. Person Specification We are looking for someone who meets the following person specification; Is studying for an undergraduate degree in environment or related subjects. Is willing to learn new skills such as computer drafting packages & GIS. Is comfortable taking on a diverse range of tasks across the practice. Communicates well and is willing to integrate into the team at ESP. Someone looking to further their career in either Environmental Management/Sustainability or Landscape Management sectors Someone who presents themselves well to clients. 3

5 Willing to travel to our offices in Wolverhampton to work. A UK driving licence is preferable although not essential. Remuneration ESP does not currently pay a salary for this placement, however a minimum daily rate of 20 will be provided to cover commuting to and from work. However, if the candidate generates an income in their own right, ESP will consider paying the candidate as a consultant on an hourly rate. Additional expenses occurred directly during your work will also be covered subject to prior agreement. Any additional mileage outside of your daily commute during your work placement will be paid at.45ppm subject to approval. Professional Development ESP will actively seek to train the successful applicant wherever the opportunity arises by providing training and added value opportunities including- IEMA Environmental Auditing (3-day course) Free (Normally 700) IEMA Making the Transition to ISO 14001:2015 (1-day course) Free (Normally 300) IEMA Certified Auditing to ISO 14001:2015 (1-day course) Free (Normally 300) IEMA Membership Other training where applicable. LA CMLI) has gained extensive experience in various aspects of landscape planning and environmental assessment over the past 26 years. For the past decade he has been Landscape Director of ESP Ltd, an independent, multi-disciplinary consultancy undertaking Landscape Planning and Design, Estate Management, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management for the public and private sectors. Andrew Fletcher is one of the founders of ESP, a Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Environmentalist, registered environmental auditor and trained quality auditor. He has provided expert opinion to the European Commission on the Public-Sector implementation of Eco management and Audit scheme (EMAS). He also has a NEBOSHH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (with Credit). He works extensively in many different organisations from Blue Chip to SME s. He is also a Lead Trainer for IEMA accredited Internal Environmental Auditor Course. He has developed stand alone, aligned and integrated EMS/QMS/H&S systems. He was the first trainer to deliver Level 2 in Working with Environmental Sustainability in the UK. Oliver Lockwood joined the team in September 2014 and has since graduated with a 2:1 in BSc Geography from Coventry University. He now assumed the role of Environmental Consultant where he delivers our core services and manages client projects. As of September 2016, he has enrolled onto a part-time MSc in Environmental Management.
