1 Industry Mentoring Initiative (IMI) Information Session Fall 2011

2 Industry Mentoring Initiative (IMI) Selective, year long group mentorship program for firstyear, full-time MBA students Supports students who are making a career switch into one of the following industries: Consulting Investment Banking Marketing/Consumer Packaged Goods Media & Entertainment Educational program that offers an in-depth perspective on industry of interest not a company recruitment program 2

3 IMI Career Tracks and Corporate Partners Consulting Investment Banking Marketing/CPG Media & Entertainment 3

4 IMI Program Content Program content varies by track, but typically includes the following components: Industry overview & trends Review of various departments/functions Resume and cover letter reviews Mock interviews Recruiting pointers Support from MBA2 Mentors who participated in the IMI program during their first year 4

5 IMI Framework 12 to 15 students selected for each track 3 to 4 corporate partner mentors on each track, typically Stern MBA alums Generally, 4 to 6 meetings during the year, primarily in the fall on Fridays Student track lead will be appointed for each track Track lead serves as liaison with the corporate partner 5 All IMI track meetings are mandatory

6 IMI Selection Criteria Successful applicants must: Demonstrate commitment and focus on selected industry track Commit to attending all track meetings Possess the skills necessary to succeed in selected industry Clearly articulate desire to participate in program and what can be gained through the experience Demonstrate the ability to work successfully in a small team environment Serve as ambassadors of the Stern School 6 Priority will be given to students who do not have prior experience in the industry to which he or she is applying.

8 Application Overview Application requirements: All first-year, full-time MBA students are eligible to apply, but preference is given to career switchers Students can apply to one track only Applications are due by 11:59 PM on Thursday, September 15 8

9 Application Overview Visit and select Fall 2011 IMI application from the IMI page Complete all sections of the application and submit it along with your resume to Career Account by 11:59 PM on Thursday, September 15 Save and attach resume as LastName.FirstName.IMIResume Save and attach application as LastName.FirstName.IMI Application 9

10 Career Account Upload Resume and the IMI application Apply for the program Sign up for interview times 10

11 Career Account Online System Your username is the 9-digit university ID number found on the back of your ID card. You can click on Forgot Password to reset your password and have it ed to you.

12 Upload your resume and cover letter Click on the documents & resources section Then click on My Resumes & Cover Letters Ensure that you have uploaded at least one resume and the IMI application (as a cover letter document type) in order to apply. If you don t have any documents in here yet, click on the Add New button below. 12

13 IMI Application process Click on OCR - Search On-Campus Interviews to search for IMI opportunities.

14 IMI Application Process All Interviews should be selected Click on the job title of the position to view details Example: Industry Mentoring Initiative Consulting Track

15 IMI Application Process Click Apply to attach a resume and IMI application as your cover letter.

16 IMI Application Process Application Status changes to Applied once a cover letter and resume have been submitted. PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT use the BACK button in your browser. Instead, use the breadcrumbs in the system or click on the tabs within the system.

17 IMI Application Process To view your interview status, go to the My Interviews tab and click on the On-Campus Interview Applications tab Your status changes to Invited when you are preselected. At that point, you may sign up for an interview timeslot. You will be notified on Monday September 19 th of your interview status. If invited, you will have from noon on 9/19 to 11:59pm on 9/20 to sign up for an interview timeslot.

18 IMI Interview Sign-Ups When you have been invited to an interview click on Schedule Interview.

19 IMI Interview Sign-Ups Click on your preferred time slot and hit Submit to sign up.

20 IMI Interview Sign-Ups The Scheduled On-Campus Interviews tab shows you the details of the interview(s) you have signed up for.

21 Requesting to Swap Interview Times Within the cancellation deadline (before 11:59pm on 9/20), you may request to reschedule an Interview with another student. From the Scheduled On- Campus Interviews tab, click on the button. 21

22 Requesting to Swap Interview Times Click on link to with the time slot that you would like to swap with, then Submit. An will be sent to that student and when they accept or decline your request, you will receive an notifying you, and your new time will be reflected in your Career Account. 22

23 Selection Process All applications will be reviewed by the NYI team or MBA2 student leaders who participated in IMI last year Students selected to interview will be notified by Monday, September 19 th. Students will have 24 hours to sign up for an interview time. Interviews will be held from September 22 to September 28 Business casual dress code Offers will be made by October 3 The on-campus kick-offs for each track will be held on October 5, 6, 10,
