1 Job title Grade / Salary Scale Location Contract hours Working Pattern Responsible to Responsible for (staff / finance / Service Users /Customers Job Purpose JOB DESCRIPTION Men s Sheds Cymru Regional Development Officer 24,000 (pro rata) South West Wales Region Office base to be agreed 22.5 per week (days worked are negotiable) Working across South West Wales to ensure timely and appropriate promotion and support of Men s Sheds Action Groups across the region. Some weekend/evening working may be required on occasion. Project Manager Staff none Finance none Volunteers responsible for recruiting and coordinating volunteer Men s Sheds Advocates to help promote the Men s Sheds Cymru concept within their communities. To act as the main point of contact to generate interest and to promote the Men s Sheds concept within the region through close work with individuals, community groups, third sector organisations, the public sector and the local media. The post holder will lead on bringing together and developing local action groups in a number of communities across the region which have potential to develop into Men s Sheds. The post holder will then help to support these action groups on their journey to becoming fully fledged Men s Sheds through sharing guidance, best practice and through brokering peer support with existing Men s Sheds. He/she will also manage a caseload within their designated region of community action groups which have the potential to become Men s Sheds. These action groups will consist of a variety of community members including representatives of communities without a voice who will be targeted through specific development work with relevant representative groups. The post holder must be able to manage the delicate balance between empowering and enthusing community members and understanding and addressing the barriers and concerns faced by community members who show interest in being a member of a Men s Shed. Key Accountabilities 1. To act as the main point of contact for any individuals who are interested in joining or setting up a Men s Shed within their region. 2. To act as a catalyst for the Men s Sheds movement within their region attending any meetings or events where new recruits can be contacted. 3. To make presentations and to publicise the project wherever possible through local or social media and networking opportunities. 4. To help groups of community members to develop their shed by playing a key role in the development process, by linking to local sheds as examples of best practice and by sharing knowledge of relevant resources. 2 5. To facilitate regional working including bringing together local networks of Sheds for training and networking with each other and external organisations. 6. To help develop community networks and to make links between those who are interested in setting up a shed within any given area. Being able to show experience of previous community development work would be desirable. 7. To help broker links between potential shedders and those individuals, businesses or organisations which can help provide resources, equipment or premises to start a shed. 8. To provide detailed information to the Project Manager and Men s Sheds Cymru team about project progress and any regional variations or issues to enable them to make timely and accurate changes to the delivery or marketing plans. Being able to show experience of previous team working and report writing would be desirable. 9. To collate accurate outcome and indicator information which can be inputted into project returns. Have a knowledge of key issues facing men in Welsh communities which can lead to social isolation. 2. Have an understanding of the Men s Sheds concept and how it can make a difference to the lives of men in Wales. 3. I.T. skills - to be confident in word processing, use of Internet, and social media. 4. Presentation Skills the ability to confidently make presentations to diverse groups of differing sizes about the Men s Sheds Cymru project. 5. The ability to apply emotional intelligence and a positive ethos when working with diverse and sometimes challenging individuals or groups. 6. Demonstrable experience of having worked in a project delivery, support or community development role. 7. Have demonstrable experience of working in a supportive environment where the needs of a number of differing Awareness of latest initiatives and projects in areas such as community development, healthcare and grant funding. Knowledge of how to identify and engage with key contacts and organisations within a large and diverse geographical area. Awareness of how to update website content for input into the Men s Sheds Cymru website. Strong Powerpoint or other electronic presentation skills. Effective networking skills with existing networks within the work area being particularly desirable.
