1 Application Pack Thank you for your interest in the post of with ALDC, the national campaigning and councillors organisation within the Liberal Democrats. We are looking for someone who has the experience and enthusiasm to help us grow our income. There is a lot of scope in different areas, but we expect the biggest growth to come from fundraising from our existing membership, as well as from sponsorship and commercial opportunities. You will have some experience in fundraising or income generation, perhaps within the Liberal Democrats or outside. You will be a people person who can help build relationships with potential donors and sponsors. As a party-political organisation ALDC is not a registered charity. We do share many of the characteristics of a charity and the skills and techniques that work in the charity sector will work for ALDC. This is a job based at our Salford Quays head office. A Job Description and a Person Specification are included in this pack, and below there is some background information about working for ALDC. The post is paid at Local Government scales SO1-SO2. Currently this is 25,951 to 30,153 with an expected 2% pay award from April We also contribute an additional 8% of your pay to your pension scheme (after three months in employment). Background The Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors (ALDC) is the membership organisation for Liberal Democrat campaigners and councillors in Great Britain. We have 3,200 members, a turnover of over 800,000 and currently employ 12 paid staff. Our national headquarters are at Salford Quays, a short walk from Exchange Quay Metrolink station. The office has access to cycle storage and shower facilities and there is provision for paid parking. The office has level access from the street. A commercial nursery operates on the site. 3 Person Specification Essential 1 Sympathetic to the aims and principles of the Liberal Democrats. 2 Previous experience of at least one of the following: fundraising, grant applications, sponsorship or developing new business ideas. 3 Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop successful relationships with current and potential donors and sponsors. 4 Ability to deliver ALDC s programme for member and supporter donations, including producing fundraising campaigns and materials, and interacting with donors and potential donors. 5 Ability to develop new income and commercial sponsorship ideas for ALDC. 6 Understanding of budgets and income targets. 7 Good communication skills, both written and verbal. 8 Good IT skills. 9 Ability to work as part of a team and to organise your own work.

4 Job Description Post Grade Reports to: Line management responsibility for: Location SO1-SO2 Campaigns and HQ Manager Exchange Quay, Salford Hours 35 hours per week including some evening and weekend work, including attendance at Party and ALDC events Purpose To lead the development of ALDC s income from fundraising, donations, sponsorship and commercial activity. Main responsibilities To maintain and develop ALDC s income from individual donations though developing and running programmes of individual donor fundraising including the development of materials and fundraising through online channels. To be responsible for creating and maintaining good relations with our funders and donors. To maintain existing and seek new grants and contracts, including relations with grant givers. To develop ALDC s income from commercial sponsorship, or other commercial activities.

5 To develop income from legacies. To lead fundraising at existing ALDC events. To cover the work of the Membership and Marketing Officer in their absence. To represent ALDC as agreed by the Chief Executive. General To work within the organisation s agreed policies and procedures. To attend staff meetings and conferences as required. To take advantage of staff development opportunities and periodic performance reviews in accordance with terms and conditions specified by the Association. To assist in the day-to-day administrative duties as appropriate and to produce written reports as requested. To undertake other reasonable duties at the request of the line manager
