The Standard Denison Organizational Culture Report The Standard Denison Organizational Culture Report includes the overall results for your organization based upon the total number of survey participants. In the example report that follows, this includes the Circumplex, Line Item, and High/Low report for all 277 survey participants of the Global Technology sample organization. Figure 1: Circumplex Results The circumplex displays the results for each of twelve indicies that measure behaviors of the four key traits the impact business performance: Adaptability, Mission, Consistency, and Involvement. The scores are represented as percentiles, which are the percentage of organizations that scored lower than our Global Technology sample organization in each index. For example, Global Technology achieved a percentile score of 50 in the Customer Focus index meaning that 50% of all other measured organizations in the Denison benchmark database scored lower than Global Technology. 3

Figure 2: Line Item Results The next four pages of the standard report show how your organization scored on each question, or line item, on the survey. The results are sorted by Trait and Index. The Line Item results provide a more in-depth look at how the survey respondents scored in each Index. 4

Figure 3: High/Low Report This report lists the five items with the highest scores and the five items with lowest scores. This page is useful for identifying trends and patterns in your results. For example, three of the lowest scores for our Global Technology sample organization, came from the Adaptability trait. 6

Reporting Segments The following report options are available to augment the standard report. They are available for an additional fee. Report Segments A Report Segment is a report based on a subset of the overall data. The standard Demographic questions which are included in the survey (Gender, Age, Salary Level, etc) can be used to segment the data or additional Custom Questions can be added to help do this. Custom questions are customer specific and tailored to your environment, and allow for the capture of additional information through the standard survey process. Examples of custom questions are Business Unit, Region, Department, etc. One of the main benefits of using custom questions is the ability to segment the overall data based on the answer choices so that patterns and variations between things like Business Units may become apparent. Often, these variations are not readily distinguished from just the overall results report. A separate report is generated for each of the report segments. This report includes: The circular graphic profile The Line Item Report The High/Low Report There are many different ways you can structure your segmented reports. Figures 4 through 10 of this document show different possibilities for segmenting data. 8 Organizational Level Report Segments This breakout required a custom question. For example, adding the question What is your Organizational Classification? to the survey with the answer choices of Management, Exempt, or Hourly, would segment our Global Technology sample organization s overall results (depicted on page 1 of this guide) into the following three reports: Figure 4: Management Report Segment 8

Figure 5: Exempt Report Segment 9

Geographical Location Report Segments Report segments can be constructed in many ways. In this example, our Global Technology sample Organization included the custom question Location on their survey. The possible answer choices were US, Canada, Mexico, UK, and Ireland. Report Segments can be produced for each of these five locations, and/or report segments that combine the Americas locations (US, Canada, and Mexico) and the European locations (UK and Ireland) can be generated, as depicted in the examples on the next two pages. Each report segment includes Circumplex, Line Item, and Hi/Lo pages. Figure 7: Americas Breakouts US Canada Mexico Americas 11

Figure 8: European Breakouts UK Ireland Europe 12

Organization Level and Geographical Location Report Segments The answers to two or more Custom Questions can be combined to produce report segments as well. For example, our Global Technology sample organization is interested in how the Management team in the Americas and the Management team in Europe view their respective organizations. The following report segments could be produced: Figure 9: Management in Americas Figure 10: Management in Europe Management Level in US, Canada, and Mexico Management Level in Ireland and UK 13

Group Comparison Reports The Group Comparison Report takes two sets of results and displays their respective Circumplex, Line Items, and Hi/Lo data side by side for maximum visual effect (Figure 11). This presentation style is useful for, but not limited to, year-to-year comparisons as you can easily see which areas showed improvement versus those which did not. You can also include a Gap Chart (Figure 12). Figure 11: Group Comparison In this example, our Global Technology sample organization wanted to see the Management Level of the Americas and European offices combined. 14

Figure 12: Gap Chart A Gap Chart can be produced in conjunction with a Group Comparison report. This report displays the difference in score fore each index between one survey measurement and the next. In this example, the Americas score for Empowerment was 47 percentile points higher than the European score. And the European score for Creating change was 11 percentile points higher than the Americas. 18

Additional Reports Additional reports are available to augment our standard reports. These include: Figure 13 Descriptive Statistics Summary Figure 14 Performance Question Summary Figure 15 Custom Question Summary Figure 16 Open Response Text Questions Figure 13: Descriptive Statistics Summary This report provides further statistical breakdowns of the survey results. The mean, percentile score, and standard deviation are provided for each question as well as the frequency of each response (i.e. Strongly Disagree (1); Disagree (2); Neutral (3); Agree (4); and Strongly Agree (5). The report is organized by Trait and Index. The Descriptive Statistics Summary available for the overall results as well as for Report Segments. 19

For each question, the mean, range (1 = Low Performer to 5 = High Performer), and standard deviation are listed. Figure 15: Custom Question Summary This report provides a statistical breakdown for any custom questions added to the survey except for those questions that accepted free text responses. The question text is displayed along with the mean, range (customer defined), and valid sample size. 22

Figure 16: Open Response Text Questions The standard format for Open Response Text Questions is a Windows Text file. TVI = What are the key issues affecting Global Technology? Last minute decisions have heavy impact on the late shifts when not all the proper support personnel are available ,3/22/2004 7:45:52 PM,TV2, Criticism should be constructive ,3/26/2004 2:30:57 PM,TV2, As the company grows, it would be nice to see a 401K investment plan instituted. As well, it would be great to switch to a health plan with more physicians in the area ,3/27/2004 9:23:32 PM,TV1, The need for consistency is critical in ensuring Global Technology delivers quality products to its customers time and time again. Performance has improved over the last year, but there's still a long way to go. We need to pay more attention to details and better understand more about the consumer and production costs. etc 23

Change Monitor Report The Organizational Culture Change Monitor allows a company to resurvey their personnel approximately 100 days after the initial survey on two customer-selected indices. The Change Monitor report measures the difference between the first and second set of survey results which helps ensure that the organization follows through with its action plans, as well as tests the effectiveness of its change initiative. For example, our Global Technology sample organization targeted Empowerment and Team Orientation as the areas in which to implement action plans. These two indices were resurveyed and a Change Monitor report was produced. For each selected index, the Change Monitor report displays the previous percentile score, the current percentile score, and the difference between them. In addition, this information is displayed for each line item within the selected index. 24
