1 ROLE DESCRIPTION Job Title Grade Department Direct Report Employment Nations & Regions Media Volunteer Placements - Manchester/Glasgow/Cardiff Volunteer Media and Public Affairs Nations & Regions Media Officer 3 months (October to January) PURPOSE OF ROLE Help us take Sport Relief to the regions! The Nations and Regions Media Interns will work closely with the Nations and Regions Media Officer and Assistant to deliver excellent media campaigns across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The successful candidates will be well-organised, have an interest in working in a PR / media role, and be up for the challenge of working on a busy and exciting campaign. You will be liaising with regional teams around the country, so good communication skills are essential. You will also work closely with the Nations and Regions Media Assistant to deliver excellent record keeping and administrative tasks throughout the campaign. Candidates must be willing to travel. You will receive full training and support, and experience of working on a busy campaign for a national charity brand. 2 Media Marketing General Under the guidance of the regional media officer, research and help implement media plans for each of your team s allocated regions that will drive awareness and support for Sport Relief, and deliver the overall media objectives for Sport Relief 2012 at a local level. Help to identify key media contacts (across regional BBC TV and radio, local commercial radio and TV, local press and online) in each of your regions, and work with the regional media assistant to build and maintain accurate contact logs. Support the regional media team to develop supporting materials, engage media and secure high quality coverage for celebrity activities, stunts, photocalls and special Sport Relief activities happening in your regions. Under the guidance of the regional media officer, develop and use clear, accurate copy that communicates key campaign messages in an appealing format for media, within the appropriate style and tone of Comic Relief. Work with the regional media assistant and nations and regions media coordinator to research, identify and optimise marketing activities at a local level in your team s regions. Help to maintain excellent records of all marketing opportunities explored and utilised. Work with the regional media assistant to monitor stock levels of printed collateral and ensure all stock is used to maximum impact. Under the guidance of the regional media officer, work with local contacts to identify and blag marketing opportunities that utilise their assets (e.g. online advertising, space in internal newsletters, use of outdoor advertising spots). Work with regional media assistant and the nations and regions media coordinator to ensure media coverage is accurately monitored and logged throughout the campaign. Help to maintain excellent records throughout that will help your regional media officer to provide a full evaluation of successes and challenges at the end of the campaign, and make recommendations for future campaigns in a detailed debrief. Maintain close communication with national media relations colleagues to ensure we take advantage of regional opportunities created by national activity, and minimise the potential for any conflicting activities. Help to provide excellent files, paperwork and data for any future work and a full debrief file. Actively promote diversity across all aspects of the campaign. Undertake any appropriate work delegated by Nations & Regions Media Officer or Manager. Look for and use any opportunity to support the organisation's drive for sponsorship both for cash donations and gifts in kind. 3 Additional information Follow systems and procedures of the media team to ensure smooth delivery of the campaign, including logging, approvals etc. All reasonable lunch and travel expenses will be reimbursed. Placement for 3 months, October to January. There are 3 placements within the Media and Public Affairs team on offer. Full organisation induction and mentoring support will be provided.
