3 Module 1 Module 2 Strategic and organisational leadership April Duration: 3 days This three-day module sets the pace by examining the challenges of interpersonal as well as organisational leadership. To be a high performing leader you need to amplify your actions so that they are clearly seen by all internal and external stakeholders. To achieve this, leaders must draw upon a tool box of interpersonal and organisational leadership techniques. The module starts by looking at the challenge of organisational alignment and the role of the leader in ensuring consistency and alignment between the operating environment and the behaviours and actions within the organisation. It goes on to a more in-depth examination of personal leadership effectiveness with an emphasis on enhancing interpersonal effectiveness. Finally, leaders have a responsibility to ensure that organisational actions are consistent with their aims and to develop the appropriate measurement and feedback loops so that corrective action can take place early enough to reduce wasted effort and resources. Organisational leadership: consistency and alignment Building and maintaining high performing organisations Personal leadership style and emotional intelligence Handling difficult relationships and conflict Developing and measuring organisational effectiveness Prioritising action for strategic success Leading effective processes May Duration: 2 days This two-day module focuses on efficiency and effectiveness of organisations and relationships. Building on some of the strategic challenges identified in the first module, we will be using an advanced hands-on simulation to explore the challenges and learning necessary to refine our existing organisational processes. The focus is to deliver value to our stakeholders. This will examine the application of organisational re-engineering and lean methodologies to build strategies we can take back to your own teams. The second theme of this module will focus on innovation. It is often taken for granted that we expect our people to be innovative and strive for value adding initiatives. However, there are a great many techniques that can be provided to refine the innovation process to minimise wasted effort and resources. This practical session will look at the actions leaders can take to develop organisations committed to delivering value to stakeholders through innovation. Implementing lean methodologies Dealing with the people side of process re-design Aligning processes with strategic intent Evaluating the focus of innovation in our organisations Developing a culture for innovation and implementation Understanding the role of processes and place to support innovative leadership Module 3 Effective stakeholder relationships: reputation, collaboration and negotiation 2 3 July Duration: 2 days This two-day module focuses on practical strategies to deal with the complex range of stakeholders in social housing. There is little doubt that if external relationships are mis-managed, even the best run organisations will suffer. This module will offer a range of examples, tools and techniques to deal with the often complex and conflicting concerns of stakeholders. Organisational reputation is important to all leaders as it can be a platform to develop positive, productive and trusted relationships. Finally, we will have a hands-on negotiation activity that will explore practical strategies that we can use to ensure that whatever strategic and operational relationships we may enter into, are conducted using the best techniques possible to ensure the best overall outcome. Building and sustaining organisational reputation Developing trusted relationships Identifying and enhancing interorganisational collaborative strategies Building consensus and support among stakeholders Best practice in effective negotiations Understanding the psychology of coming to an agreement Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) The Leadership Programme for Housing has been recognised by the ILM as an approved development programme.
