5 QAPI & the Quality Award program AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program QAPI Continuous Quality Improvement Quality Award as a Compass Preliminary, research shows that Silver and Gold award recipients have better financial and quality outcomes. 6 Quality Award Program Brief History Launched in 1996 Approx. 9,000 applications and 3,500 awards Criteria based on the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program The mission of the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award program is to promote and support the application of continuous quality improvement in AHCA/NCAL member organizations 3 Levels of Distinction Organizations must achieve the award at each level to continue to the next level of the journey: 1. Bronze 5pages 2. Silver 20 pages 3. Gold 55 pages The Bronze Award Basics 5-page application that addresses 20 questions (criteria) Criteria are straight-forward questions Many can be addressed in 2-3 sentences There are no trick questions 6

What are your KEY mechanisms for communicating with suppliers? Silver Award Basics 20 page application Overall concept across 7 categories A team of 3-4 Examiners review each application Questions mature with the facility SILVER: Suppliers and Partners: What are your organization s KEY types of suppliers, PARTNERS and COLLABORATORS? What role do they play in your WORK SYSTEMS, especially delivering your KEY HEALTH CARE SERVICES and PATIENT and other CUSTOMER support services? What are your KEY mechanisms for communicating with suppliers? 7

8 Gold Award Basics 55-page application Responsive to full Baldrige Criteria; builds upon Silver criteria Examiners determine applicants ability to meet criteria and established scoring guidelines (same as Silver) Questions mature with the facility GOLD: Suppliers and Partners: What are your key types of suppliers, partners, and collaborators? What role do they play in your work systems, especially in producing and delivering your key health care services and patient and other customer support services? What role do they play in enhancing your competitiveness? What are your key mechanisms for communicating with suppliers, partners, and collaborators? What role, if any, do these organizations play in contributing and implementing innovations in your organization? What are your key supplychain requirements? TOP TEN LIST WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY 10.
