1 Job Description Events & Hospitality Manager Directorate: Trading Location: London Wetland Centre Reporting to: Catering Manager Grade: 8 Main function of post: Create, develop and manage an inspirational private and corporate venue hire business at the WWT London Wetland Centre. You will lead your team to shape unforgettable experience for your clients. Consistently deliver and meet or exceed against agreed targets and help generate profits that support the conservation work of WWT. Supervisory responsibilities: Events Assistant and casual/agency staff working the events. Hours worked: 37.5 hours per week Working pattern: 5 days from 7. This role will involve evening and weekend working Main duties of the post 1) Sales and marketing Meeting monthly sales revenue targets for room hire and catering sales and ensure agreed profit margin is achieved or exceeded Pro-active selling of the venue/services including networking within the industry and attending relevant trade shows Deliver the annual venue hire marketing plan with input from the Marketing Manager Identifying new sales opportunities and income streams for the venue and ways of converting these into actual sales 2) Organising and delivering events: Booking and delivering events which fit with the charitable conservation aims of WWT Organising appropriate staffing levels for each event, including agency staff where necessary Managing the events on the day, ensuring they run to a high standard Liaising with the WWT management team in advance of events and completing briefing sheets to ensure their smooth running

2 3) Management and Training: Managing the Functions Operations Assistant including setting of annual objectives, conducting monthly 1-2-1s and twice yearly appraisals Holding weekly briefing meetings with relevant parties involved in the delivery of events Identifying and organising the training needs of the department Producing the monthly staff rota for the functions team To act as Duty Manager for the Wetland Centre, including centre closing procedures post events 4) Quality Standards : Providing a personalised service to all our clients, from the initial enquiry to the completion of the event, with the focus on outstanding customer service Maintaining a consistently high quality of facilities and services available Working closely with the Head Chef to develop quality menus that meet agreed profit margins 5) Budget control: Managing the functions expenditure budget in accordance with WWT financial procedures, ensuring best use of resources Providing full cost breakdowns of room hire, staff costs and catering income/costs to ensure room hire, menus and delegate day rates deliver agreed profit margins Ensuring the department and all events comply with legal requirements (including Licensee responsibilities, Health and Safety, Food and Hygiene) In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the post holder is required to perform any other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the supervisor shown above, from time to time. Qualifications Proven budgetary management of margins, in a profit led environment Good education including Maths and English to GCSE level or equivalent Food & Hygiene certificate Personal License holder Intermediate Food Hygiene diploma City and Guilds 706/1 & 2 First aid qualification Marketing and PR training 2. Experience Experience of managing or deputising high volume, high quality customer focused event and catering operations Budgetary experience / knowledge Experience of team management Sales experience 3.
