3 Flashback 1998 A near-disastrous collapse of a portion of scaffolding in July 1998 reflected the occasional difficulties of building in a dense city. While the laying of a protective meshwork over the 47-story facade was underway, all the nearby blocks from Fifth to Eighth Avenue had to be evacuated and cordoned off for several days.

6 Flashback 2011 Hurricane Irene comes ashore in NYC coming within a foot of overtopping the bulkheads in lower Manhattan narrowly averting catastrophic damage to infrastructure. BNet is asked to staff the NYC Emergency Operations Center in anticipation of a CEAS activation

31 Final Thoughts BNet exists for one reason only create programs intended to mitigate damage to economic lifelines that affect communities recovering from a disaster by getting businesses up and running as quickly as possible following a disaster or serious emergency to restore vital lifelines We do this by creating a partnership between businesses and public safety officials responsible for managing impacted Take advantage of the public-private initiatives at your disposal. Consider an emergency re-entry/ access plan as an annex to your BC Plans CEAS is not a business continuity plan it is only a tool for your arsenal If CEAS is not available in your area talk to your public officials. If no one is reaching out to you, you do the reaching.
