What is Beta Alpha Psi? Beta Alpha Psi is the international honorary society for Accounting and Finance majors. Founded in 1919, BAP s primary objective is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. With over 280 chapters and 300,000 members nationwide, Beta Alpha Psi is recognized as the leading accounting and finance honorary organization. Objectives: 1. Recognize outstanding academic achievements in the fields of accounting and finance 2. Promote the study and practice of professional fields related to these disciplines 3. Provide opportunities for members to interact with visiting professionals 4. Foster the continuous improvement of the Accounting and Finance Department and the relationship between the department and the participating students 5. Encourage a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibilities The Lambda Xi Chapter (Elon University) The Lambda Xi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi received its charter in Spring 2006 following the Love School of Business AACSB accreditation. The Elon chapter continually strives to create relationships between students, professionals, and educators. We facilitate this through weekly meetings with business professionals who share their experiences and provide guidance. We also host several career building events including the Meet and Greet, Graduate School Forum, Etiquette Dinner, and more. The Lambda Xi chapter is committed to the surrounding Elon community and provides several opportunities for members to provide service through tutoring programs, Habitat for Humanity, VITA, and more. #

Annual Events hosted by Beta Alpha Psi Fall Semester: Fall Initiation & Social Annual Meet & Greet Graduate School Forum Weekly presentations by Accounting & Finance firm representatives Homecoming tailgate Mock Interviews Tutoring Habitat for Humanity Spring Semester: Spring Initiation & Reception VITA (Volunteer Income Taxation Assistance) certification & clinics Etiquette Dinner Multi-chapter Mixer Tutoring Weekly presentations by Accounting & Finance firm representatives Activities Information What is a typical Beta Alpha Psi meeting? BAP meetings are structured, formal events, in which attendance is taken and all members are expected to attend. Typically we try to have as many accounting firms in the fall semester come and speak about everything from contemporary accounting topics to career paths and options available to the emerging undergraduate accounting student. This is a great time to ask questions to real accounting professionals working for the top firms, and to network with those professionals during the busy recruiting season. In the Spring semester we try to host banking and finance companies to coincide with their recruiting season. Topics will be similar and applicable to current topics in finance. These weekly meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Attire for these events is business casual. Business casual is defined as a button down shirt tucked in to a pair of ironed slacks for men. Business Casual for women would include dress pants, nice blouses, dresses, and heels or flats. Shorts, blue jeans, ripped shirts/pants, hats, un-tucked pants, are all NOT acceptable attire for business casual. %

What is the Meet and Greet? Each year in the beginning of the fall semester Beta Alpha Psi hosts a Meet and Greet open to all Elon students in McKinnon Hall in the Moseley Center. This event is aimed at connecting over 20 firms from all types of business including accounting, finance, retail, etc. with Elon students in order to create networking opportunities and showcase the different firms to students. This event is hosted by Beta Alpha Psi and all members of Beta Alpha Psi have the opportunity to submit their most recent resume to career services who will review the resume and compile it into a resume booklet given to all the employers present at the meet and greet approximately two weeks in advance. This will give recruiters from each firm a head start on evaluating members of BAP before speaking to other students. This event has refreshments provided by BAP and the attire is Business Professional. What is the Grad School Forum? The Grad school forum is a specific meeting set out once a year in which BAP invites representatives from various graduate school programs to come and have a chance to speak to students about their program, the requirements, application process, and any details they wish to provide to prospective future students. This event is great for students who are considering extending their education beyond the undergraduate level through MAC or MBA programs. This event will be followed by a question and answer session where each firm will have a table and students may go to each table to ask questions and get booklets and any other literature offered by the institution. Recruitment Process at Elon Networking with firms This is the most important and on-going process associated with the recruitment process. There are a multitude of opportunities provided through Career Services to interact with accounting and finance firms and to help you get your name out there. The most significant of these events is the Meet & Greet event which will be on September 13th. This is a required event for everyone associated with Beta Alpha Psi and is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for internships or full-time positions. On-Campus Interviews After the firms have been on campus for the Meet & Greet or other events, they will often hold interviews for potential internships or full-time positions that they have available. This is a very significant opportunity if you are selected for an interview with a firm, and you should consult the Career Services department to help you &

prepare for what to expect during the interview and possibly even have a mock interview. Office Visits If the first interview is successful and both parties are interested, you will be invited to go on an office visit to the sponsoring firm as an opportunity to get acquainted with the employees at the firm and also to have a second interview. Receiving an Offer If you make it to this step, congratulations! This is a very exciting thing to receive and must be carefully examined to make sure your needs match the expectations and needs of the firm offering employment. Be sure to provide a quick response to the offer, whether it is of approval or declining the offer. Throughout the entire experience be sure to consult with Elon faculty members as well as the Career Services department, whose primary responsibility is to provide you with help in securing interviews and jobs. Tutoring Program: Fall 2010 The Beta Alpha Psi tutoring program is an invaluable service that helps students with lower level accounting courses while assisting the accounting faculty in meeting their instructional objectives. Through proper implementation of this program, Beta Alpha Psi can fulfill students needs as well as our national chapter s requirements for community service. This tutoring program distinguishes Beta Alpha Psi from other organizations by allowing members to give back to the students of Elon University. With your help, Beta Alpha Psi can achieve its goal of producing top accounting students and, ultimately, top Beta Alpha Psi members prepared to enter the accounting profession. Look for signup sheets during our weekly meetings to get involved with tutoring or elon.bap.serv@gmail.com Not honoring the position as a tutoring is seen as disrespectful to the Organization and the students, and is not in keeping with the Foundations upon which Beta Alpha Psi was founded. Location: KOBC 293 Times: Monday and Wednesday 7pm -9pm '

Dues Associate Member 1st Semester Each Additional $ 75 $ - Member $ 40 $ 40 Associate members must pay a one-time fee of $75 when they first join Beta Alpha Psi, which is all that is due until they choose to apply for membership into the chapter. This due primarily goes to our national office, as well as pays for a t-shirt. Members must pay a due each semester that they have full membership status in the chapter. This fee goes toward providing opportunities for our members and other expenses incurred for the chapter. In addition, the dues pay for business cards that the members will receive at the beginning of the year and also a t-shirt. Point System Since our chapter of Beta Alpha Psi is nationally recognized as a Superior Chapter, we need to track and report the participation of each member and candidate. Member participation is the main aspect of our chapter s high achievement. The more each member puts fourth toward our chapter and our events, then the more benefits you will receive, so we encourage each member to participate actively. To ensure the correct information is reported to the national headquarters, this year we are installing a point system in which each candidate and member must fulfill certain requirements to be initiated and maintain member status. It is laid out below. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact any of the officers and we will help. If there are extenuating circumstances that need to be discussed further, we are available. By laying out the required events and listing all of the opportunities our chapter offers to our members, we will achieve Superior Chapter status again this upcoming year. We encourage you to keep track of your individual points as well to ensure proper reporting. As an incentive, the members with the highest points will receive recognition and a gift at the end of the year. Below are the basic policies of the point system. (
