COMMAND & CONTROL

6 Agile practices What we actually do 1. Visualise 2. Limit WIP 3. Manage flow 4. Make policies explicit 5. Implement feedback loops 6. Evolve experimentally improve collaboratively

Visualise

Visualise Expressing the work in a visual manner. Using the physical space in the office to show and share the demands and on going work. People are prone to assumption and we can all interpret information in our unique way and then assume that everybody is thinking the same thing. We need to be explicit and open with our work to ensure we all have the same understanding. We use Kanban boards to do this.

Impact Drawing on Kanban and other visual and agile tools, the programme has had an impact far beyond the IT service. It has changed how we are developing our local plan, how we designed our community investment model and even how we safeguard children Pam Smith, SMBC Chief Executive

Key takeaways Principles of Lean / Agile can be compatible with ITIL practices Organisation Digital Transformation is not technology led it s cultural and in hearts and minds Transforming your organisation in to a digital organisation needs a transformation of IT operations culture to match Applying Lean Agile is not complicated and it s not costly. However it isn t easy, it takes time, energy and commitment Start at the bottom, start small and simple. Experiment and grow spread what you find useful and stop doing that which brings no value.
