3 Our Program As a graduate in the Tasmanian State Service, and as a participant in the Graduate Development Program, TasGraD, you will gain the foundation skills and knowledge to have a successful career. The Program is designed to challenge, inspire and encourage graduates to eplore the many opportunities available both within their profession and the broader State Service. TasGraD is a two year program structured around 18 months learning, and si months in which you may rotate within your home agency, or to another agency. What s in it for you? You will develop skills in writing for decision makers, financial management, public value, getting policy to and through cabinet, service delivery, design thinking and communication. Work areas include but are not limited to: policy, projects, finance, business, human resources, information and communications technology, asset and property management, data analytics and statistics, forensic science, environmental science, science, criminology, planning and law. Am I eligible? To qualify for the 2019 TasGraD Program you must: Have graduated with a minimum of a three-year undergraduate or postgraduate degree 1 in the last three years, or have graduated by the end of January 2019 (diplomas or other nontertiary courses of study are insufficient). Be either: o an Australian citizen; o a permanent resident of Australia; o a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand passport; or o hold a current visa that allows you to work full-time in Australia. Be able to commence work in February Qualifying degrees as rated by the Australian Qualifications Framework are at level 7 and above. The Recruitment Process Applying for the TasGraD Program involves capability-based assessments designed to assess your suitability for a State Service Graduate. These assessments build on your application and help us learn more about your motivations, general abilities and values. The recruitment process will involve the following: Online application Online assessment Online video Referee checks Agency specific interviews More information about the recruitment process is provided on the net page. 6 Recruitment Process Summary Below is a summary of the recruitment process and the estimated timelines. Each stage is epanded on further in this document. Applicants that progress to the online video stage will be contacted via invitation to record their responses. Applicants that progress past the presentation stage will join the graduate pool. Anyone that progresses to the graduate pool will have referees contacted. Some applicants from the graduate pool will be invited to attend agency specific face-to-face interview(s). Referees may be contacted again for confirmation. Offers sent to successful applicants Feedback January Applicants who attended an agency specific interview will receive feedback from the agency directly. TasGraD Pool From January 2019 Graduate pool will be used throughout 2019 when additional graduate roles arise. TasGraD APPLICANT GUIDE PAGE 6 of 12

7 Stage 1: Online Application The first stage of the application process is online. Allow yourself plenty of time to complete the online application. The online form will ask you to enter information about your eligibility, personal details, tertiary education, areas of interest, 500 word statement and other supporting documents. The online application is your first opportunity to demonstrate your ability to meet the selection criteria. At this stage we will be assessing: Whether you meet the essential requirements; and Your 500 word statement. How do I apply? You will submit an online application through the Tasmania Government Jobs Website at before applications close. At this stage, you will be asked a number of questions using an online application form and you will need to upload: A resume, including two referees; Your most recent academic results; and A response to the application questions (500 words maimum). Application acknowledgement Once you have successfully submitted your application online, you will receive an automated confirmation. We recommend that you check any spam folders on your account, in case the moves to this folder. Academic Transcripts Your academic transcript must prove your eligibility for the Program. Your transcript must contain: Your name Qualification name University logo or name Majoring subjects Application Tips Start uploading your application as early as possible. If you have issues on the closing date, you may not be able to resolve these quickly enough to submit your application on time. It will not be possible to submit your application online after the closing time. We recommend that you prepare your response to the 500 word statement in a word document and then copy and paste it into your online application form to avoid losing any information if you eperience technical issues. You can save your application at any point and return to it. An online course record that includes university insignia is acceptable. Proof read your application. Your writing skills are assessed along with the content in your responses. If you have not yet completed your degree, you can submit you re most recent transcript, containing your name, qualification name, and university logo, epected date of graduation, or name and majoring subjects if applicable. 8 Overseas Qualifications If you have an overseas qualification you will be required to provide Overseas Qualification Recognition for your undergraduate degree at the application stage. If you do not have overseas qualification recognition at the time of application, you must submit proof that you are undergoing the process. It can take up to three months to obtain overseas qualification recognition. A receipt of submission is acceptable proof that you are undergoing the process. If you have obtained a postgraduate degree or are currently undergoing a postgraduate degree in Australia you are not required to obtain overseas qualification recognition. Your entry into an Australian postgraduate degree is recognition of your overseas undergraduate degree. Your Resume Consider the following elements when preparing your resume: Personal Details Education qualifications Include your name, contact address and phone numbers. There is no need to include personal information such as marital status or gender. Provide details of your Bachelor degree/s, honours or postgraduate Work Eperience Include all work eperience and outline the main responsibilities and achievements that are relevant. Organise your employment history in chronological order, starting with the most recent, and indicate actual dates of employment. Make sure to eplain any gaps in time. Other eperience If relevant, briefly mention any etra-curricular activities, interests or volunteer community work that you participating in and highlight what you gained from the eperience. Referees Layout 500 word statement Include the name and contact details of two professional referees who can validate and support your application. The standard resume is between two and si pages. Use an easy to read font and a simple, consistent format. Use bullet points to break up the tet. Place key information on the front page where it can be noticed. Highlight important facts, and ensure that you can back them up with eamples if asked at interview. In preparing your 500 word statement know what you have to offer. Identify your skills, knowledge and eperience in relation to selection criteria one to three in the statement of duties and tell us: Your motivation for applying for the 2019 TasGraD Program. What do you hope to gain and what do you think you can contribute? In preparing you response, consider criteria one to three in the Statement of Duties. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds and academic disciplines, we are particularly interested to know how you meet criteria one to three below: TasGraD APPLICANT GUIDE PAGE 8 of 12

9 Ability to undertake research and analysis and make recommendations at a Graduate level. High level of motivation and willingness to undertake a range of functions and achieve work goals and objectives. Commitment to personal development. Online Assessment Tips Remember to check your inbo regularly (including junk/spam folders) as the assessment must be completed by the specified timeline. Supported browsers include Internet Eplorer 9 or greater, and the latest versions of Chrome, Firefo and Safari. Do not sure mobile devices such as ipad, Notebook/Laptop with track pad only or telephone to complete the assessment. More information about the verbal reasoning tests is available at Stage 2: Online Assessment If you are selected for the net stage, you will be invited to complete an online Verbal Ability Assessment. You will receive an from RiseSmart inviting you to complete an assessment called CEB SHL Verify Verbal Reasoning Test. The test will measure your ability to etract relevant information from written sources and make objective judgements based on that information. All the information you require is contained within the assessment. There is nothing you need do to prepare, other than reviewing some sample questions, to ensure you are comfortable upon commencing the assessment. This test is entirely non-verbal and timed. You will have five days from receiving your invitation to complete the test If you run into any technical difficulties with your assessment, you should refer to your for contact Support details. Once you have completed the online assessment your results will be considered as part of the process. The most competitive Applicants at this stage will progress to the online video stage. Stage 3: Online Video Questions If you make it to this stage you will be notified via . At this stage, you will be asked to complete an online video response to 3 questions. This is part of your overall assessment and will prepare you for agency interview/s. The video questions focus on the following criteria: delivering results and meeting epectations, adhering to principles and values and relationships. The 3 questions are timed to last approimately 10 minutes. The invitation will outline the 3 questions that you will need to record on a video platform. There are short introductory guidance videos on the platform and you can practice and re-record your response to each question. All Applicants will be asked the same questions. Don t epect follow-up questions, so please provide full responses. You will need to submit your video response within 5 days of receiving your invitation. TasGraD APPLICANT GUIDE PAGE 9 of 12

10 Remember to check your inbo regularly (including junk/spam folders) as the video must be completed by the specified timeline. If you run into any technical difficulties with your video, you should refer to your invitation for contact Support details. The video will be viewed by the selection panels in agencies for the purpose of the recruitment process only. TasGrad Pool Stage 4: TasGraD Pool and Referees If you make it to the net stage you will be placed in the TasGraD pool. Applicants in the pool will be considered for Agency interviews. Not all Applicants that make the pool will be asked to attend an agency specific interview. Applicants will remain in the talent pool throughout 2019 and will be considered by agencies for graduate positions that may arise throughout the year. If your application progresses to the TasGraD pool and you no longer wish to be considered for the Program, please inform us immediately. This will ensure we are not contacting you unnecessarily and agencies are not considering your application when you are no longer available. Referee reports The referees you nominated will be contacted at this stage to provide an online referee report. Stage 5: Agency Interviews Agency interviews are the final step in the process and the point at which agencies select Applicants. You may be invited to attend one or more interviews with individual agencies over the two week period. There are a number of different factors taken into consideration when shortlisting Applicants from the pool to agency interview stage. Your overall assessment scores will be taken into consideration in line with your stream preferences and areas of study. Participating agencies will review each application and decide on which Applicants they wish to invite to an interview based on their role requirements. The duration of interviews will vary and each agency will have different questions. Referees may be contacted again prior to an offer of employment. TasGraD APPLICANT GUIDE PAGE 10 of 12

11 Agency Interview Tips Always consider the selection criteria when answering the questions. Re-read the questions and your responses from your application before attending an interview and familiarise yourself with the Statement of Duties. You can draw on a number of eperiencing that demonstrate you meet each selection criteria including study, work, volunteering, sport or other activities you have undertaken. Make notes and bring them with you to jog your memory. Do some research and find out about the agency via the agency website and media. Make sure you arrive on time. Agency Interview Tips Stage 5: Offer of Employment If more than one agency wishes to offer you a place on the Program, you will be provided with all offers in a telephone call from a Program Coordinator. We will give you some time to indicate your intention to accept a written offer of employment. If successful, you will be employed by that particular agency and that will be your home agency. Rotations within your home agency, or to another agency can be negotiated. If you do not receive an offer of employment for the Program you will be notified via . The e- mail will contain instructions inviting you to request feedback. You will still remain in the TasGraD pool that will be open for appointments throughout Pre-employment checks Depending on the agency you are appointed with, you may be required to satisfy/acquire one or more of the following pre-employment checks prior to appointment: Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status Employment). Pre-employment checks e.g. conviction, identification and disciplinary action in previous employment checks. TasGraD APPLICANT GUIDE PAGE 11 of 12

12 Stage 6: Feedback If you do not receive an offer of employment for the Program, you are able to receive feedback. Information on the feedback process will be provided in your application outcome at the end of the process. Stage 7: Other Graduate Vacancies Applicants who join the graduate pool at Stage 4 will remain in the talent pool throughout 2019 and will be considered by agencies for positions that may arise throughout the year. Applicants who are successful in obtaining a position will be removed from the pool. If you no longer wish to be considered for the Program, please inform us immediately. This will ensure we are not contacting you unnecessarily and agencies are not considering your application when you are no longer available.
