4 10 Scheduled Evaluations Probationary status usually lasts three years 11 Scheduled Evaluations Variations occur when: Hired with 119 days or fewer left in the in first year Hired as a teacher in residence (TIR) Return to a position covered by the DCTA/DPS agreement after being an administrator Hired with an emergency license Hired for a less than 0.5 position There is a break in service If placed on unpaid leave during scheduled evaluation leave 12 4

Evaluator/Teacher Data Review Conference Teacher Gathers Records of Teaching Teacher Completes Action Plan for Future Learning 4. Evaluator Conducts Observation(s) 6. Evaluator/ Teacher Final Conference Teacher Signs CPE Form and Receives Copy 5. Evaluator Documents Data Sources 13 Evaluation Types Probationary conducted annually Two documented observations, minimum One observation must be formal 14 Evaluation Types Non-probationary conducted the first year of non-probationary status and then, every three years. One documented, formal observation, minimum Evaluator may conduct more than one observation may be formal or informal 15 5

6 Evaluation Types Special Evaluation Conducted when supervisor determines educator requires assistance in a non-evaluation year 16 Non-Evaluation Year State statute: supervisors must conduct one observation, yearly Usually informal 17 Types of Observations Formal Observation Pre-observation conference Scheduled observation Post-observation conference Informal Observation May be conducted at any time and as often as the evaluator desires 18 6

7 Types of Observations Number of Required Observations Probationary TWO: one must be formal, the other formal or informal Non-Probationary ONE: must be formal Evaluators usually conduct many observations, both formal and informal. 19 Records of Teaching or Service Must provide evaluator with 3-5 records Must address each of the five standards One record may address multiple standards Records should exemplify your performance on each standard Examples of records of teaching or service are posted on the HR web site
