2 1.0 SLOUGH COMMUNITY LEISURE Slough Community Leisure Ltd (SCL) is a Leisure Trust established in 2000 offering incredible leisure and event venues, aimed to promote health and wellbeing in the local communities, in partnership with the Slough Borough Council. This partnership has gone from strength to strength and has lead to some exciting improvements to services within Slough. SCL now runs 13 sports and activity venues in the Thames Valley and provides services to over 1.2 million visitors each year. Over the first fifteen years the organisation is proud to have increased its customer visits and reduce its cost of service to Slough residents. Its facilities include six fitness centres, two swimming pools, three sports halls, and a community events venue. In addition there are two indoor karting tracks, a tenpin bowling centre and an ice arena running through its subsidiary charity Absolutely Leisure. 1.1 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Slough Community Leisure prides itself in being a not-for-profit organisation, and in this way ensures any profits made are reinvested into its facilities. SCL's objectives are to improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities and to promote physical activity as the means to achieve this. They also sponsor health and wellbeing activities in primary schools. It aims to actively engage with the local community to help kick start more healthy lifestyles and promote wellbeing. 1.2 PARTNERSHIP AND FACILITIES Slough Community Leisure partners with the following organisations to offer health and well being facilities. It also partners with a range of other voluntary sector groups who either use their services or help SCL to meet their objectives.

3 These partnerships enable SCL to offer to types of venues with a wide range of facilities. Slough Contract Venues: these include Langley Leisure Centre (swimming facility), Montem Leisure Centre (wet and dry sports facility), Absolute Ice (Ice facility), Absolute Tenpin (bowling alley, catering and amusement areas) and The Centre (events, meetings and conference facilities) Non-Slough Contract Venues that include two Absolute Fitness (Gymnasium), two Absolute Karting (indoor karting centre), Herschel Sports (football, hockey, cricket, tennis, netball and dance studio), Slough Tennis Courts, East Berkshire College Sports Centre and Richings Sports Park. 2.0 FINANCIAL OVERVIEW Following its inception in 2000 the services and staff previously managed by the Slough Borough Council (SBC) were transferred to the SCL. At this point a quarter of its 4 million turnover was given in the way of a management fee by the County Council. During the period 2002 to 2005 SCL achieved its first financial plan by taking over the management of the Thames Valley Athletic Centre, investing 500,000 into a Fitness facility at Montem and developing the Synergy fitness brand. Its next big investment was building an 800,000 extension to Langley Leisure Centre to create the second Synergy Gym. In 2006, it helped to secure the 3 million lottery funding required to build the Herschel Sports Centre which it now manages. A subsidiary company, Absolutely Leisure, was formed in 2009 to manage facilities that were either entertainment focused or outside Slough, these initially included an indoor karting track a standalone gym and the management of Slough s Ice Arena and Tenpin Bowling venue on licence from the parent company. The organisation has since 2009 reviewed its business strategy seeking to reduce costs, extend their contract with Slough Council and expand the Absolutely Leisure portfolio t include more karting tracks, fitness gyms and small management contracts. In 2014/15 the Groups turnover had increased to 10 million with only 3% of this income coming from Council Grants.
