1 Job Description Job title: Salary: Contract type Base: Reports to: Industry Engagement Manager 65,000-75,000 (includes a 12% plussage in lieu of publicsector pension) KSS AHSN permanent contract Wentworth House, Crawley Head of Innovation Job Purpose The successful development and exploitation of technology is essential to improve population health, patient outcomes and health system efficiency. In short, technology is at the heart of modern healthcare. It is from the UK s strength in the life-sciences sector, innovation and the NHS that many important healthcare technologies have emerged. There is an on-going challenge for health and social care teams to know what credible and affordable technologies are available. Similarly, there s a challenge for product developers to know what the priorities are, what is affordable and what evidence is required. NHS England and the Office for Life Sciences (OLS) have collectively commissioned the UK s Academic Health Science Networks, of which there are 15 throughout the country, to provide a range of services that will ensure companies have an informed approach to the healthcare market. That informed approach is not just to be directed at the NHS, but as part of a wider remit for supporting the adoption and spread of innovation. These services will enable companies to develop a more realistic market access strategy and ultimately accelerate the adoption of their technology. As a result, this will help companies save significant effort and time. Services will include supporting and clarifying local needs, assisting companies to create more insightful and credible value proposition and associated budget impact models, as well as advice and support in brokering real world validation. Supporting companies in this way, this helps NHS commissioners, providers and social care by filtering out offerings that are not yet ready and helping to find products and services more likely to meet their local needs. In response, Kent Surrey Sussex AHSN has set out to provide four key functions: 1. Identifying need and communicating priorities We help innovators understand what and where are the healthcare demands, and the evidence requirements 2. Signposting We act as a first port of call for information, by: a. directing innovators to additional support or market access b. directing patients towards information about trials and pilots in the region, or new products KSS AHSN Industry Engagement Manager_final.docx 1
