1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: President Date: May 1, 2018 Department: Administration Status: Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE Plans, organizes, directs, and manages the Chamber s services, products, business/economic development and public policy activities for Chamber members and responds to the needs of its members within available and agreed upon finance resources. Developing and maintaining a collaborative working relationship between the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce, and other key business and public policy organizations, other regional/state Chambers, and other regional organizations to foster a nurturing business environment for members. Delegates portions of his/her responsibilities consistent with sound operations and authorized policies and procedures, together with proportionate authority for their fulfillment through subordinate staff responsible for member services, marketing, communications, business services, public policy, and other related functions. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the general guidance and direction of the Board of Directors. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Exercises supervision over all Chamber staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assure the development and successful implementation of the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce s multi-year strategic plan and the corresponding annual Business Plans, as approved by the Board of Directors. Ensures that all proper Chamber documentation is current, including policies, insurance, state registration, etc. 1

2 Assure effective and profitable operation for the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce through optimum use of human resources, financial resources, equipment, technology, and processes in order to fulfill the goals of the organization. Participates in Chamber activities to promote and enhance the image and relationship of the Chamber with all groups and parties in the community. Develops alliances and partnerships within the community that promote collaboration and lead to the accomplishment of the Chamber s membership, public affairs and business development goals and priorities. Assure the Board of Directors receive relevant, timely communication to enable the Board to operate at maximum effectiveness; coordinates all Board meetings, including development of the agenda; and execute the Strategic Plan, including the coordination of Officers and Board development as well as membership on Board and Chamber committees. Assure effective communication with the Board of Directors, members, all outside stakeholders and internal staff. Assure sound business practices are in place and used by all staff. Assure staff is delegated authority and is compensated commensurate with responsibilities. Assure the human resources are managed in order to create a positive and productive work environment that meets all legal requirements. Assure the critical success factors of the organization are constantly highlighted and addressed. Lead in identifying and securing revenue generation opportunities that provide benefits to the members. Lead in other key initiatives as needed by the organization. Act as the primary spokesperson of the organization. Engage in direct member contact, recruitment of new members, and retention efforts. Performs any and all other duties as assigned. 3 Continued growth in the number of members on an annual basis through new member development and retention of existing members. Growth of general operations through new or enhanced revenue streams. Continued long-term financial stability of the organization. Enhance the Chamber s brand and its public image attributes, including effectiveness and growth. Retain image and influence of the Chamber throughout the Williston region and the Bakken marketplace. Ensure high quality staffing, management, and governance of the organization, including implementing the Chamber s annual business plan. Enhance business advocacy efforts and public policy offered to members. Provide leadership in building cross-sector partnerships among business, government, and community organizations. Develop innovative programming that maximizes member return on investment. ADDITIONAL AND PERIPHERAL DUTIES Attend seminars and workshops related to Chamber management. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: (A) Bachelor s degree required. Master s degree a plus. (B) Certification encouraged: preferred Certified Association Executive (CAE) or Certified Chamber Executive (CCE). (C) Five years related experience working in an executive position with signification personnel, financial and strategic responsibility. (D) Significant supervisory experience preferred. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (A) (B) (C) (D) Working knowledge of the principles and practices of modern chamber management; extensive knowledge of financial administration, generally accepted accounting practice, and human resources management; Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, Board members, members of the Chamber, public officials, and the public; Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; Skill in personnel management, including the ability to effectively 3

4 interview, hire, train, assign, motivate, counsel and discipline employees, and the ability to direct and evaluate the work of employees. (E) Knowledge of all aspects of business development, including business promotions, business growth and expansion, and commercial and retail recruitment; (F) Ability to perform complex and varied work, interpret technical information, gather, and analyze financial information in order to make sound decisions and recommendations; (G) Skilled in using modern office equipment, including computers, Microsoft office, member database systems, other software used for delivery of information and services to members.
