BACKGROUND Horizon Power s environmental policy outlines our commitment to a high standard of environmental performance and the continual improvement and implementation of a framework for understanding and managing our direct and indirect environmental impacts, risks and opportunities. 2. OVERVIEW Environmental awareness, leadership and adherence to this policy are the responsibility of all employees of the business and its contractors. Horizon Power supports this collective responsibility through the following formal accountability: Executive Management is accountable for the development and implementation of environmental policy, processes and performance objectives; The Manager Capacity Management Support is accountable for advising the Executive on environmental matters. Other business unit managers such as Regional Managers and Project Directors may also be accountable for advising the Executive on environmental matters relevant to their respective roles; Dedicated environmental management functional staff are accountable for establishing and maintaining the effectiveness of relevant frameworks, systems and processes, coordinating environmental initiatives / programs and improving awareness across the business; and Line Management is accountable for planning and managing delivery of Horizon Power s environmental objectives and operational compliance obligations. 3. WHO DOES THIS POLICY APPLY TO? Employees and contractors working for Horizon Power or on Horizon Power-managed assets or projects are accountable to understand, observe and ensure a demonstrated commitment to this environmental policy. It is the accountability of Horizon Power to ensure relevant training and education on our objectives is provided to all employees and contractors working for Horizon Power or on Horizon Power-managed assets and projects. ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY Purpose: Energy for Life Vision: provide low cost and sustainable energy solutions Horizon Power s operational service area encompasses approximately 2.3 million square kilometres of regional Western Australia and services some of Australia s most sparsely populated and ecologically important regions. Environmental values within our service areas are as diverse as the areas in which we operate. In meeting our responsibilities under the Energy Operators (Powers) Act 1979, Horizon Power will have regard for these environmental values when generating power, operating our networks, managing legacy issues and supplying power to our customers. We will achieve this by: continually improving environmental performance through operational efficiencies, engineering improvements and systems development; setting and reviewing performance against corporate objectives and targets; actively investigating new technologies in clean energy generation and storage; meeting all legal obligations and requiring the same standards of compliance from our contractors and suppliers; integrating environmental risk assessment into decision making and operational activities; educating and training our employees about environmental risks, responsibilities and initiatives that may affect their work; actively managing legacy site contamination issues; communicating with key stakeholders on environmental issues in a transparent and timely manner; promoting the efficient use of materials and resources throughout our business; and preventing pollution and reducing waste. Environmental awareness, compliance and adherence to this policy are the responsibility of all employees of the business and our contractors.
