It is overseen at the highest level and encouraged at every opportunity. This approach makes sense for us as a business and for our employees and clients. Our Board is responsible for our Corporate Responsibility policy, which is then implemented through our executive team across the entire business. Externally, we engage with local stakeholders through community groups and civic projects, and work collaboratively with all members of our local and global supply chain. 2 Central to our approach is ensuring the health and safe working conditions of everyone undertaking operations for us, which is achieved through our safety culture and robust quality management system. Another priority for our organisation is sustainability. We operate a business that provides sustainable design solutions, minimises environmental impact and delivers quality to time and budget. This ensures future success and the provision of sustainable employment.

Safety & Quality At Nuvia, a key element of our success, which underpins everything we do, is our commitment to safety and quality assurance. To support delivery of our work a comprehensive range of systems, procedures and practices, accredited to ISO9001, have been developed, which incorporate lessons learnt from project delivery and best practice, and proactively help to reduce hazards, incidents and injury. Central to the development of our health and safety culture has been our focus on workforce involvement. This approach has seen Nuvia increase near miss and unusual occurrence reporting and continuously reduce reportable incidents. 4

Standards & Expectations Launched in 2007, Nuvia s Standards & Expectations programme seeks to increase workforce involvement in safety and environmental management through effective leadership, communication and awareness raising. The programme encompasses our Just Culture, agreed with trade unions and led by our Board and CEO; SHE improvement teams that promote ongoing safety discussions relating to projects in an open, frank atmosphere; and monthly briefings on topics relevant to company activities and risk. Reporting hazards, near misses and unsafe conditions helps prevent injuries THE SAFE WAY IS THE ONLY WAY The central theme of the Nuvia Group strategy Nuvia s Unusual Occurrence Reporting system Continuous improvement Since 2004 Nuvia s reporting culture has been central to the programme of continuous improvement. This process is managed through the Unusual Occurrence Reporting (UNOR) system. This system is open to all employees, can be accessed via the intranet, or paper reports and empowers responsible managers to describe the action needed in order to address an issue raised. Timely close out of actions is managed by a system of reminders, with a close-out target of 30 days from first report. Management commitment to safety is monitored via this close-out rate and, in 2012, 82% of UNOR reports were completed within the 30-day target. In 2013 a Quality Observation Reporting (QOR) function was added to complement the UNOR system, which specifically addresses quality management issues and plays a key role in performance improvements in this critical area. RoSPA award In May 2013 Nuvia collected its second RoSPA Order of Distinction the highest award offered for safety management and performance which represented 16 consecutive years of operation at Gold Award standard. RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Nuvia has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award. 6 Fewer incidents. No lost time Lower environmental impact Future business Sustainable Development Why? At Nuvia, we believe in sustainable business. But what exactly does that mean? Supporting our local communities In essence, we incorporate sustainable development principles into all aspects of our operations, from reducing our environmental impact and improving safety to developing our people and supporting the communities in which we live and work. Providing jobs & creating wealth We do this through compliant systems of work, delivery of projects to time and budget, taking advantage of developing technologies and adopting effective approaches to design and procurement that leave as little impact on our natural resources as possible. By working in this way we create a sustainable, secure company for our people, provide certainty to our stakeholders, clients and communities, and ensure opportunity into the future. 6

60% of Nuvia s supply chain spend is through SME organisations Turnover million Supply Chain Spend 46 million Collaborative Working We are proficient at working in partnerships Because our projects involve a wide variety of stakeholders within our industries, our customers sectors and society at large, partnership is part of our culture. As part of the VINCI Group, we have access to a global network of specialist contractors, which enables us to boost the added value of our projects. As well as working as part of a global group, Nuvia also operates within a local framework and is committed to providing opportunities both locally and globally to the supply chain. Nuvia forms part of the NDA s Supply Chain Charter for nuclear decommissioning sites, to foster good working relations across the NDA estate. Committed to small to medium enterprises Nuvia works closely with SMEs to deliver a range of complex, high-profile projects. During 2012, 60% of Nuvia s supply chain spend was through SME organisations. Sustainable procurement Our procurement policy ensures that sustainability is promoted both within our supply chain and in the products and materials we buy. By monitoring our suppliers ability to deliver against specific requirements, encouraging and supporting them to develop their own sustainable practices and using materials from sustainable sources wherever possible, we ensure that the environmental impact of our business activities is minimised. The Charter encourages all parties to sign up to a set of principles encouraging mutually beneficial and rewarding relationships. 10

Sustainable Engineering Nuvia s sustainable design processes and operational methods are developed to minimise environmental harm. Our design solutions incorporate the use of low-impact materials, adopt energy-efficient processes, are durable and re-use or recycle materials wherever possible. We capture energy performance information in order to optimise and enhance our design solutions, invest heavily in research and development, constantly monitor developing technologies and employ techniques that meet or surpass all statutory requirements. This approach ensures compliance with our Company environmental policy, accredited by LRQA for ISO 9001:2008, TickIT Guide Issue 5, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. Many of Nuvia s employees undergo training to become Low Carbon Consultants accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers scheme (supported by the Carbon Trust), which further supports efforts to embed sustainable design throughout all areas of the Company. 12 Skills & Pathways A continuous programme of local recruitment, on-the-job and professional training, as well as the development of key skilled, safety-related individuals, is vital to our work and maintains and grows transferable skills regionally. A culture of success We work hard to ensure all staff have the skills and knowledge needed to do their jobs safely and effectively, both now and into the future. Graduates, apprentices & talent management Pathways Nuvia employees are empowered to achieve their potential Nuvia s Pathways give employees the opportunity to develop their careers with the Company. Pathways encompasses our talent management and succession planning initiatives as well as our graduate and apprentice schemes. People who work with us are empowered to build their careers with us and this, in turn, ensures that future organic growth is maintained. 12

Civic Engagement Nuvia commits to civic engagement in the areas in which it operates and supports its employees in their aspirations to develop skills through volunteering and charitable activities. Cumbria Community Foundation Engaging with local communities is at the heart of our identity and we are proud of the longstanding relationships we have built with the stakeholders of West Cumbria, in particular with the Cumbria Community Foundation (CCF). Thanks to our CCF fund we have been able to connect with some outstanding regional projects. Phoenix Youth Project Nuvia is a keen sponsor of the Phoenix Youth Project, a charitable organisation working with the young people of Cleator Moor, Frizington, Moor Row and the surrounding areas. The charity provides services for young people, including outreach sessions, holiday provision, issue-based work and informal education. Our relationship with the Phoenix Youth Project came about through the Cumbria Community Foundation and will be a long-term partnership for Nuvia. 13

Civic Engagement Thurso High School Rock Challenge Nuvia s Corporate Responsibility Policy stresses the importance of supporting local communities, with particular focus given to youth and environmental issues. As part of our continued commitment to our local communities, we supported the young members of Thurso High School Rock Challenge Group to enable them to travel to and from Dundee where the Scottish Rock Challenge finals were taking place. Whitehaven Festival Nuvia is a regular sponsor of the Whitehaven Festival, one of the key dates not just in the Cumbrian social calendar but increasingly in the UK s festival calendar. The Festival and its volunteer organisers provide a weekend of entertainment as well as a huge economic boost to the region. Through this event Nuvia has had the opportunity to support design students from the University of Central Lancashire and Lakes College, as well as treasured marine landmark, The Beacon. Nuvia also utilises a local supply chain of entertainment and catering companies for this and other local events. The VINCI Foundation Established in May 2002 to provide support for non-profit organisations, the Foundation provides two tiers of support for local communities. Firstly, the Foundation provides financial backing for projects that enable VINCI to become a lasting part of its communities and, secondly, VINCI employees are encouraged to volunteer their time. As part of the VINCI Group, Nuvia also participates in the Foundation, which it can access to support civic projects. So far, over 1,000 initiatives have been supported by the Foundation, with over 17 million being granted. 14 Science Technology Engineers & Maths (STEM) Ambassadors Nuvia has a network of STEM Ambassadors who volunteer at educational institutions across the UK. Volunteering as STEM Ambassadors allows Nuvia employees to promote science, technology and engineering to young people, actively encouraging them to enjoy and participate in STEM subjects. The Young Generation Network (YGN) is a charitable group created by the Nuclear Institute (NI) to offer younger members of the NI the opportunity to further their knowledge and facilitate networking between generations. Nuvia really believes in the YGN, as it is a great tool to bridge the industry s generation gap and share knowledge and awareness. Employees of all ages are encouraged to participate in and share YGN activities.
