We're seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to manage effective and efficient financial and accounting services for Orchestra Victoria (OV) to ensure all statutory, accounting and government reporting requirements are met. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a Finance team that provides strong financial support to all departments of The Australian Ballet and Orchestra Victoria Desired Skills and Experience Financial Reporting and Controls ensure company s financial accounting requirements are met to the standards and timeframe set by the CFO to comply with statutory, Board and audit requirements, Assist in the monitoring and review of the design and implementation of all relevant systems associated with OV s financial and information flows and systems with a view to ensuring: Manage procedures and controls around employee related costs; Assist in the processing of, fortnightly, and weekly payrolls. Transaction Processing- ensure that OV s transaction processing arrangements are efficient and cost-effective and meet the required standards; Insurance - manage claims arising under the Company s general insurance policies. Accounting and Reporting Strategy Development Carry out research projects into relevant aspects of the Company s activities such as new tax systems, new legislation, and accounting standards To successfully fulfill the roles and responsibilities as outlined above, the Assistant Accountant should demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and personal qualities: - Essential CPA or CA equivalent Essential - Accreditation/membership of a recognised professional body Essential Successful track record in similar position Essential - Satisfactory Police Records check (arranged by TAB) Essential Team management experience Desirable IT and systems implementation experience Highly developed written and verbal communication, negotiation, interpersonal and staff development skills Strong analytical skills Sound working knowledge of relevant legislation, contemporary accounting standards, procedures, practices and financial systems and financial management Experience/knowledge of the arts industry and funding bodies is desirable Collaborative team player Strong decision-making capabilities Excellent eye for detail and commitment to completion To view full position description please visit Please apply to jointheteam@australianballet.com.au attention Ange Park. 3 POSITION: Assistant Accountant 1. KEY ROLE: To manage effective and efficient financial and accounting services for Orchestra Victoria (OV) to ensure all statutory, accounting and government reporting requirements are met. This is a non-touring position within the organisation. 2. CULTURE / ENVIRONMENT: The Finance and Business Operations Team works in an environment where systems and procedures are being updated to reflect best financial management practices. The members of the team work both autonomously and as a team, and are committed to providing superior financial and administrative services across the organisation. The finance team is made up of: the CFO, two finance managers, a finance shared services team consisting of a; Payroll Administrator, Accountant, Assistant Accountant, Accounts Payable and Receivable. The Business Operations team manages IT, property, and travel. The administration offices, production department, music department and rehearsal studios are located at The Australian Ballet Centre, 2 Kavanagh Street, Southbank Victoria. The Sydney office is located at 10 Hickson Road, The Rocks NSW. Orchestra Victoria is located at Gladstone Street, South Melbourne. The Australian Ballet performs on a regular basis in the Arts Centre, Melbourne, and Sydney Opera House as well as other interstate venues. The Company also tours overseas. 3. SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To ensure the following responsibilities are carried out for OV: 3.1 Financial Reporting and Controls To ensure the Company s financial accounting requirements are met to the standards, and within the timeframe, set by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to comply with statutory, Board and audit requirements, including Statutory accounts ASIC returns Monthly financial and management reports Taxation returns including GST, FBT and other taxation requirements Government reporting requirements including grant acquittals, donation reporting for Federal and State bodies To ensure the production of accurate and timely financial reports to meet the company s management needs, including: Monthly financial accounts, including daily and monthly cash flow forecasts; Monthly management accounts including variance analysis; Detailed forecasts for senior management and Board reporting;

4 On-line access to account details for managers of other departments; Other reports as agreed To assist in the monitoring and review of the design and implementation of all relevant systems associated with OV s financial and information flows and systems with a view to ensuring: An efficient and productive overall system is in place; The system continues to meet the company s requirements and objectives; All relevant procedures are being followed to the required standards; and A strong financial control environment is in place, and audit controls approved by the Board Audit Committee are properly implemented and monitored on a regular basis; Maintaining Finance 1 and other finance systems 3.2 Artist and Staff Reporting and Controls To manage procedures and controls around employee related costs; Assist in the processing of monthly, fortnightly, and weekly payrolls. Ensure appropriate superannuation and tax treatment for artists and staff paid through both Accounts Payable and Payroll. Prepare workers comp returns for NSW and Victoria. 3.3 Transaction Processing To ensure that OV s transaction processing arrangements are efficient and cost-effective and meet the required standards; in particular that: Payroll processing is done within appropriate statutory, award and enterprise bargaining frameworks; Accounts Payable and Receivable transactions are processed in an accurate and timely manner; All balance sheet accounts are promptly and effectively reconciled with a particular emphasis on payroll, ticketing, venue transactions and stock; The Company s asset records are properly maintained. 3.4 Insurance Manage claims arising under the Company s general insurance policies. In conjunction with the CFO, prepare the annual insurance declaration for renegotiation of the Company s policies. 3.5 Accounting and Reporting Strategy Development Carry out research projects into relevant aspects of the Company s activities such as new tax systems, new legislation, and accounting standards 4.
