2 Inspired by the success of EdgeFarm 2014, CII Western Region is happy to announce EdgeFarm 2015 EdgeFarm, is a unique initiative of CII Western Region, that brings together the HR fraternity both from Academia and Corporate on a single platform by way of HR Case Study Writing Competition. It is a platform created to encourage learning opportunities through CASE STUDY METHODOLOGY in the field of Human Resource Management. In a country where Human Resources are our most valuable asset, there is a need to create relevant corporate and management stories, and develop knowledge repository within HR fraternity by building upon experiential learning and research in the field of Human Resource Management to support the industry as well as Academics. This alliance between Corporate and Academia culminates into a landmark success, in what we would term as Corporate Professional Responsibility. Needless to say, the benefits of this initiative to various stakeholders would be as under: Value to Corporate Case Studies are simple testimonials establishing a company's brand eminence Case Studies are often a story from Start to Finish, and a powerful advertisement to gain recognition Case Studies include real numbers and are often real time achievements of a company Case Studies talk about specific strategies and appeal to different types of learners Case Studies are an extremely cost effective multifunctional marketing tool Value to Academia Building the knowledge repository for industry and student Building brand eminence for the Institute Building and contributing to effective learning methodology Value to Individuals Benefit of studying live situation Benefit of increased learning through case study Benefit of gaining different perspectives Highlights Best Case Studies which will be short listed will be shared with the Corporates and Academicians. Criteria for Judging Cases Case Study quality would be determined by the appended factors: Ability to satisfy learning objectives Accuracy of research and data presented Presentation and writing style Versatility of usage The Case Study must be accompanied with Teaching Notes which should include the following: Case Synopsis Learning Objectives Assignments / Discussion Questions Suggested Readings Teaching Plan Analysis (3-5 pages of suggested / possible answers to the assignment / discussion questions)

Faculty members may opt students as co-authors but the conference presentation and participation will be limited to academicians. Maximum number of co-authors is limited to four member Guidelines for Case Submissions An author can submit a maximum of 3 cases, written either individually or jointly. Per Institution the total number of entries should not exceed 9. The case and the teaching note must be the original work of the author(s) The author(s) must submit the Intent to participate form, through by We are happy to announce that this year we are introducing two categories of case study entries Primary Field Case Secondary Field Case The form should clearly communicate - the collaborating organization, the decision situation and contextual setting in brief, and the category under which the case study falls that is Primary Field Case Secondary Field Case Each case must accompany a Teaching Note (Please refer to the Content of Case Study section for more information on teaching note). Note: In an event an author of any of the Case Study works jointly with another author, the same would be accepted. Author is defined as one who is the primary writer of the Case Study.

4 Entry Fees Entry fees for submission of Primary and Secondary Case Study will be Rs. 3,000/- per team per entry. Please find enclosed the Intent to Participate form. Case Studies would be accepted under the following two categories Primary Field Case: Cases based on first hand interviews conducted by the case author/s The size of the organization will not affect the case selection. Provide a lively description of the decision situation and bring case protagonist and other characters come alive in insightful dialogues. Organization details such as the revenue turnover, the number of employees, the location, the industry, the product if added will make a meaningful case read. Present relevant facts and data with all details required for a meaningful analysis (include charts/tables/graphs as exhibits), if required. Describe the different dimensions of the decision problem, and include multiple perspectives to make the case an interesting learning experience. Avoid any signals of a preferred analysis or solution in the case. Footnotes are the preferred way of citing sources/references. The layout of the footnote should be as follows: For journal articles: Author name, article title, journal/ publication, year, volume, issue, page number/s; For books: Author name, book title, edition number, publisher, place of publication, year of publication, page number. All Internet or website references must use the style above where applicable (author, article, website, publication date), include the URL and the date the link was accessed. The primary cases necessarily have to be submitted with case consent forms duly signed by the signatory authority of the organization on which the case is written. Explicit citations as footnotes should be provided for all the secondary research sources referred for the case. Note: Wikipedia/blogs etc. are not considered as a valid research sources. Cases do not need any consent form clearance from the company but at the same time there cannot be any language that is considered libelous or indemnifying. Any such language used will lead to rejection of the case study. So also the case study should not be plagiarized material. Teaching notes The Teaching Note must include the following Case Synopsis (keep it brief) Target Audience (Programmes where the case can be taught - e.g. MBA, Exec. MBA and in Industry Training programs) Learning Objectives of the case (list the concepts sought to be taught using the case and courses wherein the case can be used). Teaching Approach/Session Plan (to help faculty guide the case discussion). Possible questions for class discussion/assignment. Suggested answers to those questions. Suggest additional readings (if any) Please note that any analysis/answers/solutions presented in the teaching note must only be based on the information provided in the case and NOT on any information that is new/ unknown to the case. Format Write the case in third person, past tense and active voice. Use simple language and keep the use of jargon (if at all required) to a minimum The full case, including all appendices should NOT exceed 15 pages of text and exhibits while adhering to the formatting style given below. Formatting Style - Font - Times New Roman; font size - 12; line spacing with one-inch margin all around. Font for title of the case 14 Times New Roman Bold, headings and sub-heading 12 Times New Roman Bold. Secondary Field Case: Cases based on secondary data Case study should have a clear decision focus Organization details such as revenue turnover, the number of employees, location, industry, and product will help build a meaningful case read.

The 8 best entries will get an opportunity to be presented to an eminent jury, followed by the felicitation of top 3 case study authors. The findings of this contest will be presented to a larger academic audience to encourage innovation in teaching and serve as a catalyst to facilitate Industry - Institute interaction. 6 The research, the market connect, the relevance, the contemporariness, while writing a case have all added to my domain of knowledge and teaching experiences. I used to use case studies as a teaching pedagogy, but writing one myself has made me acutely aware of opportunities in the form of obstacles and situations that the industry faces, just waiting to be explored. This initiative will give impetus to developing Indian case studies rooted in indigenous issues and challenges and innovative solutions to surmount them.
