2 WHAT IS CERTIFIED HEALTHY BUSINESS? Created in 2003 to showcase Oklahoma businesses that promote health and wellness for their employees. Annual assessment tool to show businesses where they stand on supporting health. Three levels of certification are presented to qualifying applicants: Basic Merit Excellence

3 WHY IS BECOMING A CERTIFIED HEALTHY BUSINESS IMPORTANT? Certified Healthy Businesses show their communities they provide a healthy environment for employees. Regular review of workplace policies and procedures can help strengthen practice. Medically high-risk employees are medically high-cost employees. They use more health care services, thereby generating higher claim costs than their low-risk peers.

4 BUSINESS CRITERIA CATEGORIES Developed from the CDC Worksite Health ScoreCard (HSC). Designed to help employers assess their health promotion programs, identify gaps, and prioritize high-impact strategies to prevent heart disease, stroke, and related conditions.

To obtain Basic or Merit certification, businesses must enforce a 100% smoke-free workplace policy. To obtain Excellence certification, businesses must enforce a 100% tobacco-free workplace policy.
