Qualified applicants must be 21 yrs. old and possess a High School or G.E.D. certificate; have a valid Nevada driver s license; possess computer literacy skills including experience with database, Excel and Word software, as well as the State NCJIS Computer system. Strong verbal communication and people skills are required dealing with inmates as well as other agencies and visitors. Duties include the operation of all electrical controls that allow movement of both the employees and inmates within the jail. Will observe inmate activity in day rooms, exercise rooms and maintain welfare checks for the safety of both inmates and staff. Other duties include various record and log maintenance on the network records computer system. Applicants will be required to pass a criminal and civil background investigation. 2 ELKO COUNTY HUMAN SERVICES 571 Idaho Street Elko, Nevada (775) (775) fax JOB DESCRIPTION: CONTROL ROOM CLERK JOB CODE: DEFINITION: Duties include the operation of all electrical controls that allow movement of both employees and inmates within the Elko County Jail Facility. This individual is not required to have any physical contact with either inmates or civilians, although verbal contact with both is necessary. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Works under the day-to-day supervision of the shift supervisor of the jail. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Responsible for the operation of the network records computer as well as the State NCJIS computer. Responsible to monitor and control the movement of all employees, inmates and visitors within the facility.

3 Operate and control the access from various areas of the secured facility. Maintain inmate records during the shift. Observe inmate activity in day rooms, exercise room, and maintain welfare checks for the safety of the inmates and staff. Oversee security of inmates, facility, and other staff members. Receive incoming telephone calls to the jail facility. Receive visitors, incoming packages, and mail for inmates. Communicate with the State through the State computer (NCJIS), running record checks, driver s license checks, and registration checks. Update inmates records on the network records computer system. Issue commissary as requested, to inmates. Receive complaints and take office reports from the public. Log records of transactions concerning inmates visits, money exchanges, and cell assignments. Issue receipts to the public for inmate transactions, as necessary. Comply with Elko County policies and department procedures. Accurately complete work assignments, in a timely manner. Advise supervisor of project/work status. Communicates tactfully, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, and the general public. Listens carefully and responds appropriately. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 21 years of age.

4 Must possess a High School or G.E.D. certificate of completion. Must have valid Nevada driver s license. ABILITY TO: Communicate information as required, both by telephone and radio to other agencies and Sheriff's Office. Control and monitor all emergency alert systems that are available. Ability to demonstrate a high standard of personal integrity and professionalism. Possess computer literacy skills, including experience with database, excel, and word software. Ability to pass a criminal and civil background investigation. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities.
