1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: LOCATION: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: Deputy Principal Clapham Principal Assistant Principals Head of MIS & Exams SALARY: Circa 80K OUTLINE OF POST As a member of the College Leadership Group (CLG), lead on the strategic vision and planning for quality across the College and ensure the highest levels of professional standards are consistently in place across all aspects of the college s offer. To ensure all students benefit from the highest quality learning experience and are able to succeed and progress to good careers To add value and lead on the delivery of the Strategic Plan and Business objectives as part of the College Executive team and the LSBU family group. To deputise for the Principal and to be the College nominee for Ofsted. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Quality 1. To deliver outstanding student success through strategic leadership and management of quality systems and processes. 2. Lead a robust quality improvement strategy linked to the college s strategic vision, operational and quality improvement plan that delivers excellence in all that we do. 3. To write the annual College Self-Assessment Report and manage the selfassessment process operating across the College 1

2 4. Support staff across the organisation in establishing and maintaining the highest professional standards 5. To lead a high performing team of staff and support the team s development through Personal Development Reviews, target setting, performance management and staff development 6. To lead on a whole college approach that ensures that the college has a reputation for excellence with all key stakeholders that is reinforced through external benchmarks including Ofsted, FE Choices, DfE progress measures 7. To lead and support innovation and quality improvement of student success and progression across the college including sub-contracted and partnership provision. 8. To be a good role model for students 9. To be responsible for the proactive day to day operational management of the College so as to maximise effectiveness and efficiency across the full range of College activities and the efficient and effective use of resources, which will include: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) Establishing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships promoting a culture which values, supports and encourages all College staff. Providing leadership, promoting professional standards and good conduct and encouraging the commitment of staff, leading by example. Developing, managing and maintaining a culture of improvement and excellence within the College. Contributing to the development and maintenance of effective communication within the College. Driving forward change as required and as set out in the Strategic Plan. Curriculum 10. Promote a business ethos which ensures students are fully prepared to work in diverse communities 11. Work closely with employers and partners to achieve a vocational, technical, professional employer focused curriculum and meaningful work experience 12. Provide effective leadership and management of the curriculum portfolio to meet the needs of students and wider community and provides value for money 2

Work with the Assistant Principals to oversee the strategic and educational development of the overall College curriculum at all levels to ensure the College provides an appropriate, effective and responsive range of courses and qualifications to meet the needs of the students and community it serves 14. To have overall responsibility for the successful delivery of student study programmes 15. To ensure that study programmes take full account of the funding methodology 16. To ensure the adequate recruitment and deployment of staff to enable all elements of study programmes to be delivered 17. To co-ordinate all curriculum and timetable planning 18. To work with college managers to support strong collaborative working with a range of external partners 19. To work with the Assistant Principals to plan, allocate and manage the finances and the overall physical resources of the curriculum including accommodation, equipment, books and other materials, and value for money Responsibilities and accountabilities 18. Be a member of the College s Leadership Group and to prepare management and board reports and papers on all aspects of quality and outcomes 19. Ensure Health and Safety procedures are adhered to in all lines of responsibility and proactively engage in ensuring a culture across the college that recognises the importance of safe working practices. 20. To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the role with the College. Actively promote and implement the College s Safeguarding Policy. 21. Ensure that the learning experience provided is of the highest quality as measured against national benchmarks and external bodies including Ofsted. 22. Ensure that all college quality processes are applied consistently and rigorously across all provision including all sub-contracted and partnership work and appropriate monitoring is in place. 23. Ensure awarding body compliance and act as the main point of contact for awarding bodies. 24. Ensure robust and effective verification processes are in place and regularly monitored across all provision including sub-contracting and partnership work. 3

4 25. Provide data that is reliable and robust in measuring quality and outcomes. 26. Enable and support all managers to deliver quality targets through the use of responsive and effective self-assessment process. 27. Support external validation of quality of provision across all areas e.g. IIP, Investors in Diversity, Matrix. 28. Ensure full compliance and consistency in application of quality processes and procedures across all provision including sub-contacted and partnerships. 29. Ensure that quality processes monitor outcomes by demographic groups, student cohort and ensure that any underperformance or gaps are identified and addressed as a priority. (E&D) 30. Administration of internal and external surveys e.g. ESFA/DAS returns and agree timely actions that address feedback from key stakeholders. 31. To ensure that planning and assessment and feedback is robust, timely and meets awarding body requirements. Personal and professional development 32. Develop and maintain professional standards and expertise by undertaking relevant professional development. General 33. Actively promote and market the College and present a positive image of the College and its activities both within and outside the College environment. 34. Ensure the quality standards and performance measures applying to the work of the college are met and facilitate continuous improvements in all aspects of the post. 35. Carry out any duties at all times in accordance with the College s policies including Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and Child Protection Policies. 36. Incorporate into the role the philosophy, values and behaviour stated in the College mission and Strategic plan. 37. Ensure the adherence and maintenance of the College s security and disciplinary procedures. 38. Undertake any other responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the post, which the Principal or their senior management representative may from time to time require. 39. Personal skills in English, Mathematics and ICT by holding Level 2 qualifications with a 5-year currency (or by undertaking initial assessments at job interview stage and by achieving Level 2 within one year of their appointment date as appropriate). 2.
