1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: Location: Reports to: Farm Manager Puketoro Station General Manager NZ LP Date: June 2015 Puketoro comprises of 8413 ha, with paddocks ranging in size from 400 ha to holding paddocks. The property is a breeding farm, runs 30% Perendale sheep and 70% Angus cattle equating to 34,000 stock units. The country is big and challenging. KEY OBJECTIVES: 1. Overview of management of Puketoro 2. Monitor budget for production and costs in conjunction with the General Manager 3. Monitor, weigh, count and report issues and concerns to the General Manager on a no surprises philosophy 4. Supervise capex implementation and costs 5. Manage staff and contractors 6. 2 1. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT The Farm manager is responsible for implementation of the budget for the farm, including: Participation in the development of the annual financial budgets in conjunction with consultants and the General Manager and in accordance with objectives. Purchase of all farm inputs (farm expenses) in the most cost effective way and in accordance with the Employer s financial budgets. Sale and purchase of livestock, produce, plant and equipment in accordance with the financial budgets. Timely submission of accounts, invoices and stock reconciliations in accordance with pre-determined timeframes, currently by the 3 rd of each month. Liaison with the General Manager as required regarding above activities. 2. STAFF MANAGEMENT The Farm Manager is responsible for the effective management of staff resources by: Effectively manage all staff and contractors on the Farm. Effectively implement the the day-to-day/week-to-week management plan. Motivate staff to strive for quality output. Recruit and select staff in consultation with the General Manager as required. Performance manage staff to achieve continued improvements. Discipline and terminate staff in consultation with the General Manager and HR. Complete performance reviews. Identify and implement any necessary training or instruction of staff. Effectively manage, accurately record and submit, for all staff, time off including annual leave, sick leave, bereavement leave and public holidays. 3. LIVESTOCK PERFORMANCE A. Stockmanship Supervising and implementing the jointly agreed management plan ensuring the property performs to expected levels and all tasks are completed as required for day to day stock and pasture management. 3 Ensuring that stock are moved and handled to protect the welfare of the animals is and in line with the Animal Welfare Act and Ingleby Guidelines. Ensuring effective, efficient and timely completion of all stock work, including mustering, yard work, dagging and crutching. Ensuring all dead stock are appropriately disposed of and recorded. Ensure all stock is effectively mustered. B. Product and Stock Weight Targets It is the Farm Manager s responsibility to: Ensure weight gains at least meet expected and agreed weights as per budgeted or reforcasted targets. Plan and organise the pasture management programme that maximises pasture quality Avoid pasture damage, improving pasture production and utilisation. Complete feed budgets. Plan and feed out supplements. Provide monthly records of stock numbers, sales, purchases and deaths. Recommend improvements to management strategies. C. Animal Health The Farm Manager will: Use best endeavours to minimise stock deaths to not more than forecast. Promote animal health. Prevent health problems by administering remedies (as required), taking all necessary precautions, including administering an appropriate drench to all incoming stock. Take steps to prevent bloat, trace element metabolic disorders, facial eczema and parasite problems. Agree any strategies with the General Manager before being implemented. 4. ASSET MAINTENANCE (PLANT AND MACHINERY) The Farm Manager shall: Ensure that farm maintenance is promptly completed as identified or requested. Ensure that all farm development work and improvements are undertaken. Ensure all farm buildings, vehicles and farm machinery are maintained to a working standard, including ensuring machinery is cleaned. Ensure that the vehicle, tool and machinery inventory is updated accurately and in a timely manner. Ensure that farm vehicles, plant and machinery are serviced and road worthy to meet warranty, insurance and safety requirements. Farm Manager Puketoro June 2015.docx Page 3 of 5

4 5. ASSET MAINTENANCE (LAND) A. Erosion Control The Farm Manager is responsible for: Co-ordination of planting of trees (ornamental and erosion control) in appropriate locations as agreed with the General Manager to prevent land erosion and maximise land usage. B. Weed Control The Farm Manager is to: Ensure that no weed plant reaches flowering stage in any year Implement an effective weed control programme for both the pasture and crop areas, in consultation with the General Manager NZ LP. 6. REPORTING AND RECORD KEEPING The Farm Manager is to maintain accurate and timely records in the following areas: Animal Health Traceability Records Resource Management Act requirement records Staff leave (including annual holidays, public holidays, sick leave, bereavement leave and scheduled time off) TB certificates Monthly records of stock numbers, sales, purchases and deaths. Regular meetings to be held with the General Manager NZ to review past performance and to plan for future performance. Reports to be completed and provided to the General Manager NZ as requested. Ensuring the property is operating within the budget each year. 7. HEALTH & SAFETY At all times, comply with the requirements of the. The Farm Manager is responsible for: Ensuring compliance with the Health & Safety in Employment Act, its amendments and regulations and the Health & Safety Policies and Procedures of Ingleby Ensuring all practicable steps are taken to protect the safety of themselves and staff. 5 Regularly holding H&S meetings and completing and submitting documentation as required. Promoting the use of Hazard Identification (Haz ID). Providing support to the H&S Representative. 8. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Attendance to professional development forums. 9. SUSTAINABILITY POLICY The employee acknowledges that they have received and read a copy of the employer s Sustainability Memorandum. Further that associated with the management of the property they agree with, and adhere to, the principals outlines in the Sustainability Memorandum. 10.
