3 1 2 3 What is Recertification? Achieving certification from the HR Certification Institute is a long-term commitment to yourself, your career and the HR profession. Recertification is the process of renewing one s certification. To maintain certification, you must be prepared to continue to learn, grow and increase your current knowledge. To recertify your hard earned certification, each certified HR professional has three years to earn 60 credit hours by participating in activities, such as attending conference sessions, writing articles for publication and participating in new onthe-job-projects that align to the bodies of knowledge, among other activities. The activities that are eligible for recertification credit are listed on our web site and in our Recertification Policies and Procedures Handbook. You may also choose to recertify your credentials by retaking the exam that pertains to your current certification. Why is it valuable to your certification? With recertification, you are demonstrating your commitment to staying current in the field of HR. By remaining active in HR, you are validating your knowledge and experience and showing that your skills are current and relevant in an everchanging environment. Recertification says you are building upon your knowledge, growing as a professional and increasing your experience daily. This validation of current experience and knowledge is what differentiates a certified HR professional from one who holds only a degree or certificate. Recertification Requirements All certified HR professionals have a time frame referred to as your recertification cycle. Your recertification cycle is the three-year period allotted to earn the 60 recertification credit hours needed to maintain your certification. It begins the day you pass your certification exam (recertification start date) and ends in the third year on the last day of the month you became certified. This date is referred to as your recertification end date. For example, if you passed your PHR exam on June 1, 2015, your recertification cycle would be as follows: Recertification Cycle June 1, 2012 June 30, 2015 All credits must have been earned during this time frame Recertification End Date June 30, 2015
