1 Position: Treasurer Candidate: Jan Corderman Application Questions 1. US WILPF is a mission-driven membership organization. What does that mean to you? The power of our organization is its members. As individuals and through their branch, section and international organizations members make a difference in their communities by engaging in the issues they care about. They also build coalitions with and participate in activities of organizations that share WILPF s values. 2. Please describe your involvement in WILPF, including a brief summary of work at the level of branch, national, and/or international: Very soon after joining WILPF s Des Moines Branch I found branch committees that I wanted to be a part of and actions that broadened my knowledge of issues affecting my community. We had fun dressing in evening gowns, wearing tiaras and sashes that proclaimed I Miss Democracy, to name just one of those actions. For the past five years I have been part of our Branch s leadership team and served as treasurer for three of those years. In line with our effort to reach out to partners and potential members I create and mail our Branch s E-NEWS that: asks the reader to ACT NOW, shares a calendar of events of interest, and offers NEWS and COMMNT. Our E-NEWS is distributed to over 250 on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. With support from WILPF-US and POCLAD in 2015 I was part of a group of 20 citizen diplomats" from 15 States and one from South Africa. We met with students, correspondents, entrepreneurs, and ordinary people in Moscow, Volgograd, Ekaterinburg, and St Petersburg. My assignment on this WILPF trip: to bring the message to Russia that American women seek peace and organize through WILPF and other groups to advocate for peace in Russia and the Ukraine, as well as other parts of the world. After my trip I had the opportunity to make presentations to WILPF Branches in Madison Wisconsin, Burlington Vermont, Boston & Cape Code as well as to my own Branch and other groups in Iowa. I was fortunate to attend the 58 th Commission on the Status of Women in 2014 as one of seven Local to Global Delegates. At the CSR seventy five activists and advocates from all parts of WILPF joined over 3000 other women to join in the hustle and bustle of: UN activities, a ceremony at the University of New York honoring Secretary-General Madeleine Reese, nine events that WILPF sponsored or cosponsored, workshops presented by large and small organizations across the globe. We began and ended each day sharing our experiences with with 20 amazing young women who went on to be active in the WILPF Branch in their states.

3 Candidate Statement It is with great excitement that I run for the position of Treasurer of WILPF-US. This position is a perfect fit for me as it combines work I am passionate about with responsibilities I am familiar with from past work experiences. I spent my entire career working with organizations to succeed through budget and membership growth as well as service and social growth. In my work experience in labor unions and my activities in WILPF at the Branch level, I have worked with teams to create, develop, and manage strategic campaigns and initiatives from inception to implementation, always with a specialization in service and volunteerism. I would like to help us grow our programs by engaging with our members and leaders to do amazing things at the US section level. No matter what size the organization, one of the looming pain points is always limited resources to accomplish all objectives they have in mind.
