2 JOB STATEMENT The Aerodrome Officer is responsible for assisting with airside reporting functions, carrying out airside and other general maintenance at Council s Aerodromes. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS The Aerodrome Officer is responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of Council s aerodromes. Functions include carrying out of maintenance tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures, checklists and aerodrome manuals. Identify maintenance activities to ensure the serviceability and appearance of Council s aerodromes. Airside Undertake maintenance of airside grounds with minimum disruption to operations. Carry out airside serviceability inspections, and address faults and hazards as required. Carry out minor airside infrastructure maintenance. Landside Carry out gardening and maintenance of terminal grounds. Carry out maintenance of landside grounds, and facilities. Plant and Equipment Operation of the following plant and equipment is required for the position Mower, brush cutter, edger, spray equipment Tractor, slasher, sweeper Emergency generator Hand tools Monitor and daily servicing of plant and equipment used. Report any faults and safety concerns regarding plant and equipment to Coordinator Aerodromes. Terminal Perform clean up around terminal building including litter removal and empting of rubbish bins. Clean interior of facility. Undertake minor building maintenance. Report any major building faults to the Coordinator Aerodromes. Stakeholder Liaison Respond to feedback in accordance with Council s Customer Service Charter with the aim of maintaining and promoting a positive image of Council and aerodrome operations. Maintain positive and professional relationships with aerodrome stakeholders. Occupational Health and Safety Comply with Wellington Shire Council s Occupational Health & Safety Policy. Take reasonable care to ensure personal safety and health at work and that of other persons in the work place. Observe all safe work practices as directed by the Coordinator Aerodromes, and use and maintain personal protective equipment as and when provided. Report all accidents, incidents and hazardous situations arising in the course of work.

3 General In consultation with appropriate staff, evaluate opportunities to introduce new technology which can improve operations, service and productivity. Undertake and contribute to other day to day activities. Perform other duties as directed. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Accountability and Extent of Authority The Aerodrome Officer is directly responsible for: For the safe and effective maintenance of Council s aerodromes Maintaining all plant and equipment according to manufacturers specifications, and cleaned as required or directed. Ensuring all activities are carried out according to agreed practices, policy and procedures. Ensuring that all work carried out is in accordance with established Occupational Health and Safety measures, management guidelines and work group specifications. Judgement and Decision Making The ability to solve problems, using procedures and guidelines and the application of professional or technical knowledge. Capacity to carry out operations with a focus on safety within legislative, Council and industry parameters. Specialist Knowledge and Skills Posses skills required for an Aerodrome Reporting Officer (ARO) / Works Safety Officer (WSO). Skills in managing multiple tasks, setting priorities, managing time, planning and organising work. Skills in communicating requirements as noted in operational systems and procedures. Understanding and ability to implement personnel practices including Occupational Health & Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity. Interpersonal Skills Ability to gain cooperation and assistance from clients, members of the public and other employees in the administration and operation of aerodromes. Able to provide positive image of aerodrome operations at all times. Qualifications and Experience Demonstrated ability in the areas of time management, working autonomously and within a team. Sound organisational, problem solving and record keeping skills with the ability to show initiative. General knowledge of gardening equipment and maintenance. General knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. Current Victorian Drivers Licence. (Desirable) Aerodrome Reporting Officer / Works Safety Officer endorsement.

5 Physical job related requirements The following physical abilities are necessary to perform the duties of this position: Ability to sit for extensive periods (mowing airfields with tractor). Manual dexterity (to carry out various airfield maintenance tasks). KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders. Awareness and understanding of the principles of occupational health and safety. Experience as relevant to areas of key responsibility. Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
