3 Introduction - The LEO-Net Network Welcome to LEO-Net! LEO-Net stands for Leveraging Education into Organizations and is a network of more than 150 dynamic partners from universities, colleges and intermediate organizations in 32 European countries and beyond, all of them involved in academic placement mobility within the European Lifelong Learning Program. LEO-Net was founded in 1999 at the annual conference of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) in Maastricht, The Netherlands. In February 2000, during the Training 2000 Conference in Brussels LEO-Net was inaugurated with 66 founding members. At the EAIE conference in Leipzig, Germany, LEO-Net was officially launched by its members. The aim of the network is to stimulate the internationalization of higher education and in particular to facilitate high standard work placements in Europe. LEO-Net has thus established a platform to discuss common opportunities and challenges as well as to develop strategies to improve the European Placement Programmes and the cooperation between partners. LEO-Net s growing number of members proves that in order to guarantee a high level of quality in student and graduate placements within Europe, it is of utmost importance that partners have means to communicate and interact such as our platform

4 LEO-Net Goals 1. Higher Education: The network provides its members with the possibility to gain knowhow on various topics regarding higher education in Europe and to find new partners for mobility and related projects. Workshops and training courses are regularly organized in order to disseminate achieved results and share experiences as well as tips for project management and professional development. 2. European Work Placements: LEO-Net stimulates the internationalization of higher education and facilitates high standard work placements in Europe by means of Job Offer Exchange. 3. JOEplus - Job Offer Exchange Portal: LEO-Net offers a portal where members have the possibility to post and to find work placements all over Europe. JOEplus is also a means to strengthen ties between the working and the academic world, promoting close links between academic institutions and companies

5 Advantages of Collaborating with LEO-Net One of the main purposes of the Lifelong Learning Program is to further stimulate the exchange between European educational institutions and to support collaborations between the working and the academic world. Although companies play an important role and are considered as full partners, they are unfortunately hardly informed about the Program s possibilities. LEO-Net has always striven to involve companies/the industry in the Program and offers many advantages with regard to managing international work placements such as the possibility to contact more than 150 universities and other academic institutions in Europe and to access our European Job Portal JOEplus. Please find more information below. Advantages of European Placement Mobility Offering work placements to international students and graduates has many benefits. You will profit from state-of-the-art knowledge taught at the universities in Europe. The input of the trainees, such as new methods and work methods, will contribute to the internationalization of your company and improve your capability to compete in today s globalised world. Trainees may also make a valuable contribution to acquiring new markets in their home country. Furthermore, a traineeship can serve as a long trial period and is thus a good way of recruiting an international staff. Also, trainees who are hosted in the framework of the Erasmus (students) or Leonardo (university graduates) Program may apply for a grant with their university. While this grant should not fully replace a salary, it is a means to lighten the burden of especially smaller - 5 -

8 Job Offer Exchange LEO-Net s Job Portal: JOEplus The JOEplus portal has been developed by Stellenticket, a spin-off company from Technische Universität Berlin (TUB) that has a long experience in the field of university related online job offer exchange portals. With JOEplus LEO-Net provides a modern online job offer exchange platform. The portal is based on the idea that it is much easier for members to acquire placements in their own region or country than abroad, since they speak the same language and share the same cultural background as potential employers. In exchange of posting offers from their region or country, members may use the portal to find placements abroad for their students and graduates. In order to simplify its use, JOEplus is now fully trilingual (English, French and German) and also allows companies direct access to the portal (see chapter How to Use JOEplus).
