NCAWSFS Federal Funding Federal Funds Received from Rural Water Program FY2010-FY2011 $500,000 FY2011 additional $450,000 FY2012 $1,400,000 FY2012 additional $330,000 Total federal funds received: $2,680,000 FY2014 No funding

NCAWSFS Federal Accomplishments Aerial mapping of most of main stem completed Survey work to establish control for main stem mapping completed Surface geology mapped Highway 89 to Tuba City Plan and profile drawings for Lechee to Gap, Gap to Bitter Springs, and Gap to Grey Mountain. Flagstaff alignment identified Provide assistance to Flagstaff with preparation of SOW and grant application for Red Gap Ranch (RGR) Provide technical support to Flagstaff for RGR

NCAWSFS Geologic Test Pits

CPTAC Sustainable Water Management (SWM) Subcommittee Began work in 2009 Hiatus when NCAWSFS received funding in late 2010 Resumed in 2013

CPTAC SWM Subcommittee Based on CPWAC Strategic Plan, Strategic Directions and Implementation Strategies: Develop sustainable water management framework and thresholds Identify potential effects of current and potential water management scenarios Include climate change scenarios Provide water management guidance

CPTAC SWM Framework Matrix Goal: Sustainable Water Resources on the Coconino Plateau Elements: Criteria: Standards or points of reference. Example: adequate municipal water supply. Indicators: The factor that may be changing based on management decisions or natural drivers. Measures: The variable that is measured through collection of data to determine progress towards meeting the criteria.

CPTAC SWM Framework Matrix Criteria, Indicators, and Measures for the Goal of Sustainable Management of Water Resources on the Coconino Plateau Criteria: Adequate Ecosystem Water Supply Criteria: Adequate Municipal Water Supply Criteria: Appropriate Governance Criteria: Social and Economic Considerations Indicator: Hydrologic variables Indicator: Ecosystem response Indicator: Municipal Water supply Indicator: Political support Indicator: Social Well Being Measure: surface flows: magnitude; timing, frequency, duration Measure: groundwater levels Measure: riparian vegetation Measure: riparian obligate birds Measure: Annual Precipitation Measure: Reservoir Levels Measure: Well levels Measure: Integrated land and water use planning Measure: Funding for technical studies is available Measure: Indicator: Economic Well Being Measure: Measure: aquatic species fish, insects, mammals

SWM Subcommittee Accomplishments Compile and review references Analyze monitoring data for sustainability indicators Prepare reports: Statistical Examination of Water Data in the Coconino Plateau for Use as Sustainability Indicators by Natalie Coston AWI: Coconino Plateau At-Risk Waters Project Final Report Coconino Plateau Water Use Scenario Report - Pending Prepare monitoring tables, maps, and GIS Precipitation Springs Groundwater Reservoirs Identify data gaps Develop SWM web page

CPTAC SWM Maps and GIS Data

CPTAC SWM Thresholds Needed Need: socioeconomic thresholds ecologic thresholds Agencies / entities could provide threshold information If not, SWM proposes biophysical monitoring at Chevelon and Clear Creeks to develop environmental thresholds Submit proposal for Landscape Conservation Cooperative grant funding

CPTAC support for NCAWSFS Future Work NCAWSFS work: Funding issues Water demands Value Planning Alignment and geology at start of pipeline (Page) Aerial photography along Moenave to Tuba City and Gray Mountain to Flagstaff alignments Geologic test pits along Moenavi to Tuba City alignment Hopi alignment Potential Grand Canyon National Park and Tusayan alignment SOW for Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Hydraulic design for North Central Pipeline EIS Final geologic data collection

CPTAC support for SWM Future Work NAU Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) funding Assessing Evapotranspiration Rate Changes from Forest Restoration Seek LCC funding for monitoring at Chevelon and Clear Creeks Prepare Scope of Work for biophysical monitoring Data collection and analysis Develop environmental thresholds Finish SWM Framework Matrix

CPTAC SWM Seeks CPWAC Approval Approval of Sustainable Water Management Framework Criteria, Indicators, and Measures Matrix Approval of proposed biophysical monitoring at Chevelon and Clear Creeks
