Purpose of the job The Imperial War Museum are embarking on an ambitious Digital transformation. There is a diverse set of business applications which have been traditionally managed within business siloes (Collections, Asset Management, CRM, Event Management, Ticketing, etc.) but in order to support that transformation these need to be brought together within a holistic capability model and delivery framework. IWM need to underpin the transformation with an agreed architecture and roadmap for all its business systems backed by a coherent delivery model to achieve this. You will have a unique mix of skills encompassing; relationship management, architecture and delivery (both internal and more so supplier management). You ll have managed significant business systems delivery projects from architecture through to operation, including supplier selection and management thereof. Knowledge of CRM implementations, integration architectures and a solid grasp of digital technologies is crucial. You should be a trained Prince 2 PM but equally adept at operating as a Scrum Master. Bringing discipline and maturity where there is ambiguity will be a key skill. This role will cover three main areas: Technical Architecture: Working with the CIO, other members of IT and AV Services, Digital Engagement and external suppliers you will take the lead role in developing the design and roadmap of the IWM s Digital Technical Architecture. This will cover mainly the core platforms used to deliver business functionality but also the Page 1 of 6 Head of Platforms & Development October 2018

2 middleware layer that will provide integration between platforms. This architecture will be composed of the systems that power the IWM s products and services on the web and in the Museum. Your role will own the vision for this architecture, and lead the development of the business requirements and procurement process both for systems and implementation partners. Your role will establish an agile working process within the IT and AV Services Development team, with stakeholders and with partners to enable the Digital Transformation programme to move at speed whilst delivering business needs. Middleware Platform Development: You will help design, procure and maintain a middleware platform to provide integration between the major IWM platforms and applications. This system will be a key component of the IWM Digital Transformation Strategy. Applications Development and technical web support: You will manage a small team responsible for developing and maintaining applications developed in Microsoft.NET, SharePoint and Dynamics CRM. You will run these developments using an agile methodology. You will work with IWM BA s to determine the best solutions to meet business needs and then lead the development using either internal resource or commercial partners. IT and AV Service maintain the technical support of the (mainly) outsourced web infrastructure. You will manage the team to provide a support function mainly for the Digital Engagement Department. Key duties Create and maintain the architectural models allowing clear understanding of as-is and to-be state of all business systems; capability, integration, longevity, etc. Roadmaps for all key business systems agreed with all the owning business Heads Collaborative and healthy working relationships with all external delivery partners using a common framework. Delivers system change and evolution according to the architectural model and roadmaps in support of the wider IWM transformation programme Works with the PMO function to ensure project and delivery frameworks are consistent across all business systems and that all Project Managers and Business Analysts work to that common framework and goals. Works with all Business Heads to ensure that the delivery function is meeting the expectation of those accountable for the respective capability. Maintains the IWM data model; how it is instantiated in business systems and how surfaced to provide business intelligence. You will be expected to work independently as well as across different teams in order to contribute to and deliver the priorities of IWM - using your knowledge, skills, talent and potential to the best of your ability. You will focus at all times on delivering excellent customer service, ensure value for money at all times while being professional, courteous and demonstrating the behaviours and attributes expected of all IWM employees. You will also adhere to all corporate standards, and use corporate systems as directed to ensure consistency of service, brand and operational standards. Page 2 of 6

3 You will be an experienced specialist in your area and take on broad responsibilities, working across departments effectively, working with individuals, partners and where appropriate volunteers. You should be able to lead, manage and motivate your staff, partners and, where relevant, volunteers in order to get the best out of them To identify and implement learning and development needs for both yourself and your team including volunteers, if appropriate. You will be expected to comply with corporate standards, and use corporate systems, processes and procedures and undertake any necessary training as directed. In addition, your duties will include: 1. Through liaison with the IT Service Desk, you will manage your team to contribute to the provision of first line support for Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the Middleware platform and the technical web infrastructure. 2. You will work closely within the IT and AV Services team and other departments (particularly Collections, Digital Engagement, Retail and Admissions) to provide advice and expertise on IT technical infrastructure solutions and appropriate and creative methods of delivery and support. 3. You will assist the CIO in commissioning and managing work from external suppliers and contractors as required. You will conduct technical feasibility studies as required. 4. You will contribute to the design and management of IWM Business Continuity plans (IWM network infrastructure / data storage). You will assist in identification and delivery of user IT training as required. 5. You will provide support for PCI compliance activities. 6. You will ensure the provision of support and network services to all customers between the hours of and Monday to Friday, except for statutory holidays. 7. You will provide support for colleagues in answering customer calls, even from customers for whose support you are not directly responsible, in line with IT call logging procedures. Ensure that all calls logged are brought to the attention of the relevant team member to action. 8. You will maintain awareness of relevant developments in the IT and AV area, bringing all such developments to the attention of the CIO. This job description is not all encompassing.
