1 Position Description SECTION 1 POSITION TITLE: Development Officer West Perth TYPE of EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month fixed term KEY FOCUS OF THE ORGANISATION (WAFC Vision): To lead and engage all West Australians through a positive experience with Australian Rules Football. KEY FOCUS OF THIS POSITION (Why this job exists): To enhance and promote the game of Australian Rules Football within the district. To facilitate the growth of Australian Rules Football through participation and engagement. Create and Maintain healthy and strong relationships with all Key Stakeholders REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS POSITION REPORTS TO: Community Development Manager, Metro North DEPARTMENT / BUSINESS UNIT: Community Football DIRECT REPORTS: N/A AUTHORITY LEVELS (Decisions and Recommendations expected): Delegated to Authority Level, as outlined in the Financial Delegations Policy. 2 SECTION 2 KEY RESULT AREAS (KRA) / KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI S) KRA S - WHAT is PERFORMED KPI S - HOW it WILL BE ACHIEVED to WHAT STANDARD, TIME-FRAME, or for WHO Junior Competition Council Provide support and liaise with Junior Competition Council members in regards to matters arising, including governance, match day issues and coaching Maintain effective communication with relevant community club stakeholders Build relationships with Junior Club Presidents, support and help deliver club and football specific program initiatives Provide support and liaise with Junior Club Presidents in regards to matters arising, including governance, match day issues and coaching Deliver and support District events (includes but not limited to: Auskick Gala Days, Junior Parade Day, DFDC Grand Finals), Provide Development Officer report, monthly Coaching Deliver and support the annual WAFC Coaching Courses, including theoretical and practical components Liaise and advise local community coaches to answer any general issues arising Communicate with Junior and Senior Club Presidents and/or Coaching Coordinators to ensure community coaches are accredited by managing/providing coaching databases Develop an annual coach education plan with District Coach Coordinator Provide communication in regards to coach professional development courses/opportunities Manage Fox Sports Pulse data basing in regards to coach accreditations Provide support to Level 2 Coach nominees within the district Umpiring Provide support to Umpires Advisor in matters relating to Junior Competition Work with Umpires Advisor to ensure school competitions are adequately umpired Work with the Umpires Advisor to ensure Little League completion is adequately umpired NAB AFL Auskick Liaise and provide support to local Auskick Coordinators in general matters arising (Rules and Regulations, Registration process etc) Deliver District events such as Auskick Gala Days Deliver and promote the PlayAFL Campaign through local schools and community POSITION DESCRIPTION Page: 2

3 Schools Engage and build stakeholder relationships with local teachers to encourage and promote the game of AFL through WAFC School programs and carnivals Coordinate the AFL School Ambassador Program including professional development opportunities Coordinate the engagement and recruitment of AFL School Ambassadors Coordinator, provide support and/or help deliver WAFC School programs, competitions and carnivals to local primary and high schools, promoting skill development, participation, enjoyment and community club transition Female Football Provide support to the Senior Women s Team through promotion of senior and youth girls programs Work with the Senior Womens Football Team in planning and delivery of female football programs and of the female football pathway Liaise and support junior girls community teams with governance and creation of fixtures Engage local schools and promote Female Football through targeted programs such as All Girls Auskick programs Deliver Primary School & Secondary School Dockers Cup Carnivals to engage local schoolgirls and promote WAFC Youth Girls Competition Multicultural & Aboriginal Engage local Indigenous stakeholders and school AIEO s in the promotion and deliverance of the Nicky Winmar Academy & Kirby Bentley Cup Establish strong relationships with respected community leaders to support uptake Successfully enter teams in the annual Nicky Winmar Carnival & Kirby Bentley Cup and manage all player registrations, uniforms, correspondence and other any additional support Work with the WAFL club in the delivery of NAIDOC week activities Support and deliver with Community Engagement Officer in targeted multicultural awareness/transition programs in high-density multicultural schools Engage and support local schools in participating in the Multicultural Gala Day and other local events Identify schools with high aboriginal and/or multicultural demographics for targeted school engagement, clinics and competitions Engage partner programs into the District and WAFL Club community through scratch matches, WAFL home game opportunities, leadership POSITION DESCRIPTION Page: 3

4 opportunities and high performance opportunities Social Football Promote and provide support to local AFL 9 s centres Club Development Assist in the delivery and promotion of club development programs Assist in the delivery of the AFL Club Improvement Program WAFL Club Develop strong positive relationships between the WAFL Club, District and Community Clubs Coordinate the delivery of the Little Legate Program Coordinate the delivery of school holiday clinics Engage the WAFL to partner with key district events i.e. Gala Day, Registration Day, Holiday Clinics Promote the WAFL Talent Pathway Develop links between WAFL coaches and the Coach Coordinator in the delivery of coach education programs Planning Provide input into strategic, operational and budget planning Promotions Develop and publish web articles weekly during the football season Utilise social media in football promotions Identify opportunities to attend community events to promote football Relationships Ensure strong relationships with WAFC staff, by providing effective communication and organisation Engage and build relationships with LGAs in regards to Council facilities and bookings Maintain a high public profile with various local communities Provide support and advice to any general enquiries of the relevant District Provide a strong link between the WAFL Club and District, working together on events and joint programs Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partner organisations Ensure all Sponsor and partner relationships are maintained and nurtured POSITION DESCRIPTION Page: 4

5 SECTION 3 COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION: 1.Technical Knowledge General knowledge of the football industry and the various stakeholders. 2.Computer literate Advanced knowledge of Access, Word, Excel, Explorer, Outlook and PowerPoint. 3.Effective Communication Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media, including presentations at meetings, in a manner that engages the audience and ensures comprehension of the message. 4.Client/Stakeholder Focus Ensuring stakeholders and clients are always properly serviced. 5. Teamwork Willingness to contribute to the team and to work effectively and cooperatively with other team members, in order to achieve team and organisational goals. 6. Initiative Taking independent action to positively influence events without receiving direct instructions whilst remaining in the limits of defined accountabilities. 7. Planning and Organising Ability to organise and prioritise a course of action for self and to accomplish goals. 8. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO UNDERTAKE THE POSITION: (Essential or Desirable) Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience (E) Ability to lead and interact confidently with groups of participants and stakeholders (E) Demonstrative ability to innovate (E) Strong Computer literacy, along with Social Media comprehension (E) Able to work after normal business hours and on weekends (E) Current WA Drivers Licence (E) WWC card (E) Excellent written and verbal communications (E) Demonstrated ability to operate under pressure situations whilst achieving outcomes (E) A self-motivator, who achieves results autonomously or via teamwork (E) Good customer relationship/communication skills (E) Understanding of National Coach and Officials Accreditations Systems (E) Experience in training and development programs and course design (E) Understanding of Club and Volunteer Management and Training (E) Ability to manage multiple budgets, financial reporting, and acquittal processes (E) Demonstrated experience managing staff (E) A sound understanding of WA Football structure and system (D) An understanding of Volunteer environments within WA Football (D) Level 1, 2 or 3 Coaching Accreditation (D) Level 1 Umpiring Accreditation (D) POSITION DESCRIPTION Page: 5
