1 GPET Business Plan Financial Year General Practice Education and Training Limited July 2013

2 GPET Business Plan Financial Year Introduction This business plan marks the first stage of the implementation of the GPET strategic plan and will set the foundation for achieving the key organisational outcomes: competent and capable General Practitioners, benefits for all people in Australia, quality education and training, leadership in education and training, stakeholder value and quality governance and business capability. A key imperative for GPET is to attract the right applicant for a career in general practice. This year GPET will support a job analysis project and continue to refine our selection processes in conjunction with both Colleges. As part of GPET s responsibility to ensuring training meets the needs of future GPs we will focus on creating an evidence base to underpin our work. During this year GPET will build the foundation for our research program by creating a framework, generating our research agenda and developing collaborative partnerships with research organisations. GPET will also focus on facilitating a sustainable supervisor workforce and start to identify the key elements of educator and researcher career pathways. We will maintain our commitment to academic posts. GPET will work with Health Workforce Australia and rural health workforce agencies on an evaluation plan for OTDNET. GPET is committed to Closing the Gap and as part of this initiative we will develop a cultural education and cultural mentoring framework. This year GPET will commence the implementation of the evaluation and monitoring framework for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategic Health Plans and continue to support the Indigenous General Practice Registrars Network (IGPRN). Quality improvement underpins all activities across the organisation. Throughout this year GPET will roll out the Performance Framework with Regional Training Providers (RTPs) and focus on our own internal quality improvement activities. To deliver value and to reinforce the role that GPET has general practice education and training we will continue to foster collaborative relationships with our key stakeholders including the Department of Health and Ageing, AIDA, AMLA, GPRA, HWA, NACCHO, NGPSA and both Colleges. A key focus for GPET over the next year will be the development of an Strategy, improving our knowledge management practices and documenting our key business processes. GPET will also work with RTPs to undertake a review of RIDE and develop new funding models for PGPPP and AGPT. GPET will also develop a People Strategy and continue to ensure that our governance and business processes reflect best practice. Page 2 of 9
