1 ROLE PROFILE GENERAL DETAILS Role Title Operational Risk Practitioner Location Department Operational Risk Management - Operations GBF Band Anglo American Platinum Job id UG SF Reports to (manager) Senior Specialist - Operational Risk Type of Work Specialist Support Manager once removed Senior Manager Operational Risk Date January 2019 CONTEXT The operational risk management (ORM) business process is a key business process supporting the achievement of operational objectives at Anglo American Platinum (AAP) operations. The Operational Risk function with AAP supports the organisations capability to manage risk and exploit opportunities. PURPOSE To provide operational support in the implementation and execution of ORM at mining and process operations. TYPICAL TASKS Plan, implement and coordinate the implementation of ORM to all aspects of the operational risk profile. Support and coordinate the application of the ORM four layers of risk management at the operation o Baseline risk management o Issue-based risk management o Task risk management o Continuous risk management Implement and execute operationally against the integrated risk management framework operational risk management processes, systems, standards and procedures. Implement and maintain the functioning of operational risk management IT Platform. Plan and implement the Annual Operational Risk Programme and ensure support managerial oversight of the delivery of operational risk targets and key results areas. Advise the operation on required skills development to enhance the skills and competencies of employees and contractors to achieve excellence in operational risk management. Report, monitor and track operational risk performance to risk management role holders and operational management and leaders. Provide risk based operational input to operation to ensure management of material risks, audit results and Learning from Incidents. Routinely advise operational line role holders, managers and leaders operational risk performance and necessary actions. Support required integration of operational risk management into leading operational practices and programs such as the Operating Model, incident investigation and assurance practices. This work involves analysis, reflection and the use of data over a longer period of time, in order to anticipate problems. It requires knowledge of the overall system and focuses on the direct application and improvement of systems. Application/Energy Consistently displays a positive and engaged manner Motivated and driven to meet high standards of delivery which create high customer approval Remains focused in times of uncertainty and ambiguity Displays considerable personal effort to improve Knowledge Formal qualifications: Essential requirement: educated to a minimum of a national diploma level in a relevant discipline or equivalent (such as sciences, engineering or other related careers) Preferable requirement: Courses in management systems (9001, 14001, 18001), risk qualification, audit qualification Role-specific knowledge and experience: Detailed understanding of the Platinum value chain and operational trends and risks. Minimum of 5 years relevant operational mining, processing, and engineering related experience An understanding of the operational aspects associated with mining operations Demonstrated understanding of risk management within a technical environment Knowledge and experience with risk assessment techniques such as WRAC, Bowtie Analysis, HAZOP/HAZAN and other industry recognised techniques and tools. Track record of interfacing with and influencing colleagues and coordinating disciplines relevant to risk management. Safety: Knowledge of safety, health and environment policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values 2

3 Technical Skills Ability to: Desirable: Ability to use operational risk management system for input and data analysis (e.g.: Enablon, Bowtie XP, Isometrix, CURA, IHS, etc.) Translate recommendations into tangible operational outcomes. Integrated Risk Management (Level 2) Supports the definition of behaviours, organisational pressures, aspects of the mining environment and system implications that cause risk to the business, individuals and communities. Applies market leading thinking with the ability to execute practical tools and techniques. Proactively identifies and addresses the behaviours that detract from effective management of risk. Applies tools and techniques to identify the key factors that contribute to risk and harm. Empowers line management to contribute to risk management. Assurance (Level 2) Supports and execute effective assurance processes, including audits and reviews that accurately measure compliance, assess the effectiveness of risk controls, enable the identification of areas for improvement and identify best practice for wider dissemination. Applies rigorous, systematic analysis and brings practical insights. Proactively follows up on improvement progress and identifies areas where improvements have not been adopted. Supports cross functional audit teams and monitors quality of audit procedures and outputs. Creating Sustainable Business (Level 2) Integrates sustainable practices into processes and drives the role of risk management in supporting activities such as supplier management, licensing, and projects. Actively promotes the link between sustainable practice and commercial value, for example in ensuring Anglo American Platinum s license to operate. Execute and supports activities that support sustainable practice. Embeds sustainable practice into processes within own role/area. Makes explicit links between sustainable practice and operational benefit. Technical Analysis (Level 2) Applies a systematic, knowledge-based problem-solving approach and structured methodologies (such as root cause analysis and statistical analysis) to investigate risks and opportunities to create effective, value-add technical solutions. Solves operational issues in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. Implements the most effective processed to deliver solutions that drive efficiencies. Driving Business Performance (Level 2) Applies an in-depth understanding of the mining value chain to identify and execute on 3

4 opportunities where technical expertise can enhance business performance. Engages crossfunctional teams to share best practice, ensuring technical excellence and sustainable commercial decisions. Optimises productivity and quality targets by utilising deep technical expertise and cooperating with multi-disciplinary teams to highlight and address areas of improvement. Project Management (Level 2) Drives the delivery of technical solutions in projects and operations by demonstrating project management skills and active resource management, including effective control of budgets, deliverables, staff and contracts. Must have Code EB drivers licence Regional and domestic travel may be required Working on operational mine and process sites (both open pit and underground) will be required. This may involve activities of a physical nature in a typical mine environment (for example noise, vibration, heat, small spaces, reduced visibility) Must be computer literate (MS Office suite etc.) 4
