1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Operations Manager Division: Commercial and Operations Reports To: Senior Operations Manager Classification: Salary Loading: Full Time (Fixed Term) Special: Will be required to be available to work weekends, public holidays and school holidays. Date Position Created: 15 November 2013 Date Position Reviewed: 5 March 2019 ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT The Organisation Sovereign Hill is Australia's foremost outdoor museum and enjoys international recognition as such. Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that employees 300 people. This organisation includes: Sovereign Hill outdoor museum, the Gold Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool. The Department/Area Operations is responsible for the delivery of visitor programs throughout the Outdoor Museum; logistical support for functions and events; management of the general environment including general cleaning and waste management; and for the small animal care program. PRIMARY ROLE The Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating staff and activities for the daily operations of the Outdoor Museum to effectively and efficiently deliver a high-quality museum experience for all visitors. 3 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Key result area Major activities Operations Ensure that rostered Operations staff have arrived for their shift each day Follow up on any non-attendance, and if necessary contact other staff members to cover shifts Review the daily bookings manifest to identify tasks which require special attention and follow up Liaise with staff at a morning briefing to allocate tasks for the day Discuss the daily activations and interpretive events with appropriate staff members Participate in meet and greets with visitors and deal with any visitor issues as and when required Review car parking and entrance activity on a regular basis to ensure smooth visitor flow during peak periods Develop staff rosters in line with budgets and priorities for the Operations Interpreters Conduct a walk through the Museum and ensure any issues are addressed immediately or reported to the Senior Operations Manager Participate in the duty of weekend Leading Hand Assist with and oversee the set-up for conferences, wedding, training events and other functions Liaise with the Interpretive Theatre Department to further develop thematic interpretation with the operations interpreters and encourage this philosophy Develop, implement, maintain, instruct and promote safe working systems for the Operations department Explore and recommend opportunities for business growth for the department Obtain and apply the necessary skills to oversee the Operations Department in the absence of the Senior Operations Manager People Ensure rosters are prepared fairly and equitably and coordinated in line with departmental budgets Induct, train and mentor new and existing staff throughout the department, ensuring competencies are recorded and regularly assessed Undertake probation reviews, counselling and disciplinary sessions and annual performance reviews for direct reports as and when required Liaise with the People and Performance Department regarding staffing issues, recruitment etc. Teamwork Provide astute leadership by setting an example to all staff, Work in and maintain a healthy team spirit Perform other duties to aid team effectiveness when required Participate in organisational events and promotional activities as required, including the New Gold Mountain roster Organisational Undertake the responsibilities of the position adhering to: SHMA policies and procedures The Sovereign Hill Code of Conduct Sovereign Hill Workplace Safety Rules Equal Opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation and requirements Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation and Page 3 of 5

4 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Key result area Major activities requirements Participate in annual performance reviews, meetings and staff training and professional development as and when required Champion, advocate and enforce all organisational policies, procedures and practices Foster a culture which values safety as primary consideration in all activities Wear costume and uniform in accordance with guidelines of SHMA Any other relevant tasks as required KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Experience in a management or supervisory role in a similar/operational role Excellent negotiation, written and verbal communication skills Intermediate to advanced computer skills including the proficient use of Microsoft Office Demonstrated understanding and commitment to continuous improvement Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, school holidays and public holidays to provide information and training across a range of shifts Experience managing a rostering system Sound knowledge and understanding of OH&S Regulations QUALIFICATIONS A Certificate or Diploma in Front Line Management, Business Management and/or Tourism is preferred Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is preferred but not essential REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES Working with Children Check Victorian Police Check SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS The incumbent may be required to set up for functions and events. This includes moving tables, chairs, audio visual equipment and computers between various venues, chop wood, stack wood, move wood and light indoor and outdoor fires Job tasks will require the incumbent to safely negotiate uneven ground Due to the physical nature of the role a pre-employment medical will be required to ensure the incumbent is capable of carrying out the inherent requirements of the position.
