Edinburgh International Film Festival Inaugurated in 1947, Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is the world's longest continually-running film festival. With an emphasis upon new talent, discovery and innovation, EIFF s vibrant programme of films and events combines a commitment to audiences with a strong ongoing stake in the development of the UK and Scottish film industries. EIFF is a subsidiary company of the CMI. The Centre for the Moving Image (CMI) is a national organisation with bases in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. It is aiming to use film in all its guises to transform people s lives through the watching, making and understanding of film. The CMI currently incorporates Scotland s leading independent cinema, Filmhouse, the world s longest continually running film festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Filmhouse Café Bar, and the Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen. EIFF Internship is an intensive and bespoke training opportunity for individuals new to the sector. They will allow you to build your skills and learn best practice across a range of key areas of Festival operations. You will have support from a mentor and you will be able to shadow experienced members of staff. Your learning needs will be identified and recorded throughout the duration of your internship and feedback gathered at the end. The Industry Internship will give you a head start on building your knowledge of coordinating events focussed on the key topics and emerging talent of the UK film industry. It may be of particular interest if you re considering a career in film producing or in film festival administration, or if you are interested in a future career within one of film s main business areas such as production, sales or distribution. 2 Purpose of Role In addition to our public programme of films and events, the Festival s Industry team oversee a programme of events, screenings, networking opportunities and a Videotheque service for hundreds of film industry delegates and press members who attend EIFF from all over the world. Passholders are provided with a number of services including a designated Industry centre, passholder screenings, online viewing facility, and access to online and printed information on all Festival attendees and activity. As part of the Industry activity, EIFF also offers a series of talent development programmes to support both project and career development for new and emerging filmmakers. In recent years, EIFF has also held a two-day series of events focusing on digital distribution (Distribution Rewired), an invite-only Works-in-Progress event for recently completed British features. The Industry Assistant will support the delivery of all industry and talent development events that run throughout the Festival. Working in a small team, you will help to produce information and schedules for participating Industry filmmakers and guests and will assist with the coordination of events. You may also be required to coordinate travel arrangements for Industry guests. During the Festival (19 30 June) you will engage directly with accredited passholders and guests who are attending or taking part in events. You will be an information point for all kinds of queries and a friendly face for the new arrivals. During the Festival itself when you are not on duty, you will have opportunities to see films and attend events, and have access to EIFF's Industry Centre and Industry Events programme. EIFF Industry Team CMI s year round Head of Industry & Talent Development is joined for EIFF by an Industry & Talent Development Officer, Senior Registrations Coordinator, Industry Communications Coordinator, Industry Coordinators, Senior Videotheque Coordinator, Industry Venue Manager and Press & Industry Screenings Team Coordinator. The team also includes two Registrations Interns, an Industry Intern and a range of volunteer positions during the Festival. Responsibilities 1. Assist with planning and coordination of talent development and industry programmes. 2. Assist in liaising with participants of the various EIFF talent development and industry programmes. 3. Accurately update Festival database with events or guest travel information.

3 4. Assist with collating copy for and proofreading any Industry publications, posters or other materials. 5. Work with EIFF colleagues and teams including Technical, Programming, Programme planning, Marketing & Development to ensure best delivery of events. 6. Actively communicate key event information and updates to the Industry team and other relevant EIFF colleagues e.g. at regular meetings, morning meetings during EIFF and specific briefings to colleagues. 7. Support Industry team with supervising volunteers required to work at the different events within the Industry programme as required. 8. Organise and file all relevant correspondence and records so they can easily be accessed the following year. 9. Be aware of the health and safety of guests and colleagues. 10. Work with your mentor to agree and monitor your learning objectives. 11. Communicate effectively with colleagues and teams across the Festival to share information, achieve deadlines and promote a positive working environment. 12. Attend meetings and provide progress reports as required. 13. Complete an intern report form as requested by the HR team. 14. After internship has finished, provide feedback on the internship. 15. Act in accordance with EIFF policies and procedures, as outlined in the induction manual and by your manager. Environmental Sustainability It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise EIFF s environmental impact wherever possible and adhere to the company s Environmental Policy. This will include: o recycling; o switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use; o helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage; o reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly; o minimising carbon footprint when travelling. Where the role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holder will consider the environmental impact of purchases. Person Specification Applicants do not need to have prior experience for EIFF Internship roles, however successful candidates will be looking for opportunities to develop new skills and gain experience with a view to pursuing a relevant career.
