5 UNCLASSIFIED (U) AAV Survivability Upgrade (SU) The AAV SU is a bridge capability to the future Amphibious Combat Vehicle. The focus is to restore operational relevance to the AAV by adding force protection improvements to include: underbelly/sponson blast protection, spall mitigation, blast attenuating seating, and protected fuel storage. The AAV SU is an enhancement to the existing AAVP7A1 RAM/RS and is a service specific capability unique to the USMC. The AAV SU quantity provides 4 Infantry Battalions lift capacity to the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF). UNCLASSIFIED (U) 5
